Welcome to iThread. The official topic to everything Mac OS X. All haters, please leave your sh*t at the door. We don't care about your banter.

That goes for Mac users as well. This isnt a PC bashing thread. This concerns all matters with Apple products.

Whats your setup?

-iMac 17" w/ Intel Core Duo Processor
-150gb Internal HDD
-1.5gb DDR2 RAM
-ATY,RadeonX1600 gfx
-1440x900 resolution
-Edifier Computer Speakers w/ sub.
-WD 250gb External HDD

I'm going to be getting a MacBook Pro by February (if not earlier). I need the ability to move around with my editing machine.

I've got a second revision MacBook.

2GHz core 2 duo
gig-o-ram
80 gig internal hd

I want to get a mac mini with at least a 42 inch screen to turn into my media bitch.

Some of my favorite programs are xchat, adium, media rage, menumeters, and soon to be utorrent.

There's only 2 things I hate about being a mac user: Not having utorrent, and other mac users... Well the hipster fanboy types anyhow.

Sorry for the broken-randomness of my post, I tried to keep it coherent but I'm pretty drunk.

PS: I can't wait for the next ipod.... I've been holding off buying one for 5 months now just because I think the next one is going to kick that much ass.

Is there really going to be a new iPod? I figured the iPhone was the replacement for that. confused.gif

Even though I sorta doubt it now, it's ridiculous.

Steve Jobs has confirmed that they are working on new iPods, with an S. So it looks like all the models will be getting a refresh. He also said that some of them will be running OS X (like the iPhone). They've struck some large deals in the flash industry so that tells us a few things.

All models will be flash based (probably up to 36GB)?
iPod + OS X = wifi enabled with Safari?
Leaking info in june = August release? Most likely, considering their history.

The only thing I want upgraded is the screen size. Exactly like the iPhone, but sticks to music and video.

Dude, if it could connect to wifi networks and surf with safari, it would be ON. The screen is pretty much a given, bro. I mean, they have in the iPhone what they call "the best iPod we've ever made", now why would they go and make something that wasn't as good or better than that?

PS: There's entirely too much of us posting in this thread.

Alright then, but as long as they keep all the extras fees and AT&T out of my way, I'm set.

Also, not nearly enough. We must reach page 3!

Gah your specs out do mine easily...

12" iBook G4
512MB Ram
80GB HDD
1024 X 786 Resolution

But it will do me for the time being, although shortly I may have to sell and pick up a windows laptop for my Uni course.

Damn.

The earliest you're going to see new iPods is mid-September, because they're not going to come out during the middle of the back to school "Buy a Mac and get a free nano" deal. Also, I doubt they'll be all flash based because even 32GB is really expensive, while there are now 120GB 1.8'' drives.

Now, on to my setup.. biggrin.gif

Macs

Current: iBook G4

1.33GHz PowerPC G4
1.5GB RAM
120GB HD
12'' screen @ 1024x768
OS X 10.4.10
802.11g wifi/Bluetooth 2.0+EDR

full specs here

Soon: Macbook Pro

In about a month, I'm going to be getting a brand new Macbook Pro:

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR2 667 RAM (Upgrading to 4GB by the end of the year)
160GB 5400rpm HDD (Upgrading to the new WD 250GB 5400rpm Scorpio)
256MB nVidia 8600m GT
15.4'' Widescreen LED-Backlit display @ 1440x900
8x Superdrive (DVD+/-RW DL)
802.11n wifi/Bluetooth 2.0+EDR

Macbook Pro Specs @ Apple.com

I'm also hoping to get a Mac Mini to run as a media center computer.

iPods

Currently:
60GB Black 5th-generation iPod
1GB Silver 2nd-generation iPod Shuffle

Retired:
20GB 4th-generation iPod

Soon:
80GB White 5th-generation iPod (when I get my MBP because of the "free nano/$200 off a full-sized iPod deal" for students)

Misc/Accessories

Wi-Fi: Airport Extreme 802.11n

I just got a brand new 802.11n Airport Extreme about 3 weeks ago because my linksys died.

You have to many iPods for your own damn good, zioxide. I doubt you keep them all with you when you're walking around.

I want to try an iPhone out, tbh. Not actually buy one, but just see how it works and whatnot.

lol. I gave the 20 gig to my sister and she uses it sometimes when she wants to have more music than she can fit on her shuffle. I'm going to give the 60gig to my dad when I get the 80 so he can use it in his car when he has to drive far places for work.

Has anyone tried out IpodWizard to mod their ipod.

I love having a wallpaper on my Video iPod.

Now I'm trying to install iPod Linux, if anyone has done that, any advice would be great.

thats a lose right there. the tech is still to expensive for large ammounts of space.

when the competition will still be sticking larger(storage wise) hard drives into their units, and the ipod is an arm and a leg for a 36 gigger, they will start losing ground quite quickly.

how about a full screen ipod? that would be progress.

iTunes is the best music software.
iPods are great/easy to use.
iMac's im sure are good, unfortunatley i have a eMac which tbh is rubbish. Still not that much behind macs being as usable as people say they are. Haven't really used it that much since i got it a few years ago

I think it's funny that within a few days of it's release DVD Jon cracked the iPhone. Turning it into basically a limited use $500 PDA

On the day of the release, just moments of buying an iPhone, the crew of Revision3's Systm did a video netcast outside the Apple Store doors where they dropped the iPhone twice, cracked the hell out of the screen, and then tried to open it up.

eMacs are still good. There's a bunch at work (700MHz G4s with 256MB ram) and they run Tiger nicely. I'm pretty sure you can probably get up to like a gig of ram in that, so it would be pretty good.

lol at the kid "can i have it now"

apparently, the iphone is 53% profit. it doesn't make sense that its 600 bucks on a 2 year contract. my sanyo katana was free on a 2 year contract. i have a F*CK of a hard time beliving the iphone is worth 600 dollars more than the already 300 dollar katana.

I'm not wasting my time with an iPhone, since for around the same price i could find a deal on a good Canon Rebel XTI. Which would then complete my ring of good phone, media player, and camera.

o wayt no inernet. fuk.
