Is it odd that I want paddle shifters in my Suburban?

Maybe a little. lol.gif

What about a Duramax painted in Detroit Diesel Alpine green with a 6v53 blower on top fed by twin turbos? Would that seem odd to put in a luxury SUV?

It would definitely be unique. And being unique is what makes custom vehicles cool, well at least some of them. I like the sound of that motor! Can you make me one? biggrin.gif

Sure. Just buy me a donor motor, all the required components, raw materials, and tools, and pay for me to be out of work for a few months while I teach myself to weld and use all the tools, and I'll have you one just as quick as I can.

Ya know. I don't think I've seen a supercharged 4 stroke diesel. Is such a thing possible? (I don't see why it wouldn't be). I do love the looks of the old supercharged and twin turboed 2 strokes. You might could fit a turbo 6v53 into the burb with some heavy reworking.

I've seen a supercharged Duramax or two, mostly for marine applications though.
Here's a few shots of a 6v53 in an OBS 3500HD, apparently even with the taller HD front end and drop axle, a four inch body lift was still used.

I was having some fun in Z Modeler earlier.

Having some fun making the model I found more accurate. I'm guessing it started life as a 3500HD because it was a Suburban with a drop axle up front and a Dana 135 in the rear, 6 lugs all around. notify.gif

Very few run a supercharger without a turbocharger or two along with it.

Just a 1st gen Ram I think.

Actually, it might be a dakota. Would the back 2 cylinders be that far under the hood on a 1st gen? I can't even tell if it's a 4bt or 6bt now that I look at it. If it's a 6bt, it's probably doghoused with 2 cylinders inside the cab.

He didn't claim it was his so I'm not sure. Just a random 'mobile upload'. Still cool for the whole supercharger thing.

Front end looks like a 1st gen Dakota. Possibly a mid 90s F-series, but I doubt it.

If it is a Dakota then that's the first time I've ever seen a 12 valve in one. Off the top of my head the only other mini truck I've seen a 12 valve in was a Durango, and he'd also swapped the wider 8 rear end in.

I'd love to see more of that truck if your friend has any more pictures.

I'd say 99% of the diesel swapped mini trucks I've seen were 4bts. A 6bt just seems huge for such a small truck.

It's as simple as cutting the firewall and adding a doghouse. And then beefing up everything else. Lol.

Also - turns out it's definitely an early 90's dakota.

That's definitely a 6BT, come on dudes - you can see the fifth rocker cover!

Anyway, that's awesome! The wise men seem conflicted on what sequence the supercharger and turbocharger should be arranged in, and whether or not to use bypass valves. Every configuration seems to work really well for those that use it, even if it seems more logical to have the turbo feed the supercharger.

not that I can actually tell if that setup actually has a turbocharger buried in there..

nvm it's the massive f*ck-off one on the left! I overlooked it since it was kinda black and grimey and stuff. it looks like it is charging into the S/C. I wish all the piping showed :c

How much would an E23 745i (the '86 model preferably) go for where you live?

Anyone driven one?

Pricey. Around $10k or so. More or less US E28 M5 territory. A 5 speed version is one of those cars that's on my official 'list'. Hell, I'd love to have the turbo bits off of one for my E28. They basically run a 7.5:1 version of the M30 for the turbo apps and make 256 hp (about 30 less than a euro S38 at the time but more or less the same as a US S38). I bet I could get 300+ out of one with my 8:1 B34 fitted with a B35 head, 745 intake and turbo parts, and a decent tune.

People used to have them imported here a lot and fitted with the us diving board bumpers and a cat. Guy in town had one that caught fire a year ago. Such a shame.

So I guess its hit the point where its considered a 'classic' thereby jacking up its price?

Would love to have one of these and a 560 SEL. biggrin.gif

That they are. 560SEL's are starting to go up as well though still cheaper than 745's. But they're nowhere on the same level in terms of actually driving. 6.9's, on the other hand, are quite a bit pricier than 745's.

The Brougham left me stranded today. Had dinner at a McDonalds (glamorous, right?) that took about ten minutes, went out to fire the car up and get over to a buddys house. The engine hardly turns. The alternator is super hot so I started to wonder if it was shot. So I managed to arrange for another buddy to come over with jumper cables. She started, so I've taken it home now but the alternator bearings (I think) are making lots of noise and the battery won't hold power. sh*te.

Woop, Diesel Power spotted him at TS Outlaw and made a little video of it idling. It's even got the stack right in front of the windshield, something that didn't show in the photo. Seems like a lot of power in a small package!
