I got caught speeding 14 times in 40 minutes. I sent my driver to deal with it so even though I have racked up quite a lot of traffic infractions I still have the full 12 points on my license.

If I put my gear in Neutral, rev to 5009rpm then while revving change to Drive (auto), what will happen?

You'd have to depress the brake pedal before you can shift in an auto. I don't know if that helps answer you question as I don't know how the high RPM will affect it.

That's from Park to Drive. Most cars have the ability to go from Neutral to Drive with a simple move of the stick. As for Hi-revs into drive? I've always been told to never do it, reasons included Transfer case receiving a lot of heat. The fact that if you don't let go of the revs, you'll grind gears is also a big concern.

Last time I got in speeding trouble was a few years ago in spain. I got stopped doing 150 kph in a 90 zone. (about 90mph in a 55 zone). The cops were actually really cool about it. They told me off for the speed and gave me a ticket for changing lanes without signalling. Probably as it would be less fuss than chasing up a foreigner about a speeding fine. I gave em 50 euros and I suspect they went off and bought their lunch with it. I didn't complain.

Have driven many autos that didn't require any brake to shift. Only newer electronic shifted ones require that.

Also, Ronnyboy. Transfercase and grinding? Please stop now. It's basically as simple as it rapes the clutches.

That's the response I've gotten from an adult who has driven a vehicle. Then again, most people around here don't know L from 1st gear in their cars.

I don't know what sort of cars you've driven but when I think about it now, even my '97 Infiniti requires the brake pedal to be depressed before you can physically move the gearstick. Brake pedal -> shift lock button -> shift. For my S350 and 745Li things are a bit different as you don't actually move the gearstick and instead just move it back and forth to select your gear. (the lag between selection and engagement of the gears is pretty bad and i'm always having to look at the dash to make sure I'm in the correct gear icon13.gif ).

97 is still new enough to be electronic. Start going back to the 70's and 80's (not sure if you've driven a car that old), and you start seeing a lot more cars that don't require the brake. Things that are fully hydraulic and don't have any electronic brain or sensors working with them.

But seriously... Im constantly amazed by how far safety has advanced in automotive design.

Just today I saw an article in a local newspaper about a woman who died in her mk3 Golf after losing control in a corner (and reportedly she was driving within the speed limit).
