OK, my goal here is to start mapping out Liberty City based on what we know, a tough task, but worth the effort. I am going to attempt to mock-up a primitive map based on the proximity of re-occuring buildings and signs in the trailer.

My first effort, the geography of times square.

user posted image

notice the tower on the left, four distinct signs on it, one (green) says everything at a price, see it? Note the colors of the signs, green, pink, yellow and green, and note the "logger beer" sign to the left of the tower.

this is the "times square" of Liberty City. Notice far off down the street is the same tower, same alternating signs, green, pink, yellow and green, with the logger beer sign to the left, making this POV down the same street in an unknown direction.

this photo is the key to discerning what direction streets in the trailer are pointing, notice the N,S,E,W pole on the pinnacle of the church.

In real life the streets that make up Times Square go in the North and South directions, so these two screenshots are probably facing either North or South.

notice the silver building near the center, the top is under construction, and the four corners are rounded off.

user posted image

the same building appears in the bottom left corner of this shot

and this shot

and I believe its to the right of the "color tower" in this shot

based on the proximity of the "construction building" in the 3rd shot to the "flat-iron" building and the presence on the "CB" in times square,
it can be assumed that as in the real NYC, the flat-iron building is not far from Times Square itself.

In this image, the sun moves diagonally up and to the right through the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
Assuming Rockstar is not playing this in reverse, that would make the direction the camera is pointing generally east (correct?, I'm no astronomer)

meaning the "chrysler building" is east of the "construction building"

seeing as the game seems to be set in the fall (note the color of the trees), the sun would probably rise and set slightly to the south, meaning my directions might be off, but for the sake of laying things out, i plan to use the sun and angles of the shadows to get an approximation of each buildings orientation.

Feel free to pick this up and run with it. I'll be back soon to keep this up, with a simple map hopefully as well.

The end result of this should be quite interesting icon14.gif , good job so far - figuring out where buildings are etc.

Oh, and going a bit off topic here too - I'm debating whether or not that white pickup has it's brake lights on or an indicator (light does look kinda orange...)

EDIT: Forget the whole indicator thing - the front one isn't on so it must just be the brake light

So we get two clues from this. As already stated, New Jersey might be in the game and the game is in current time, hence why the ferry terminal is unused.

Good notice about the light. It looks like a break light with an indicator on top. Who knows of the indicator actually works though.

Well here's what I'm almost certain is the Hearst Magazine building, it might help your mapping.

notice the building at the center of this shot with the black triangle slashed across the top.

user posted image

It appears to the right of the GetaLife building as well

That would place it somewhere northeast of the "Empire State Building"

between the ESB and the Chrysler Building

(note the angle going in opposite directions, indicated we are seeing two seperate sides of the buildind.

This also places the GetaLife building between the Chrysler and ESB.

Assuming that R* is following the NY layout, I give you a map with the four locations we know of.

One thing to note is that the two towers to the right of the Liberty Ferry Terminal are also in the final shot, to the left of the bridge.

Whoa, worthy of a pinnage any time! Great work man!

If this is only the area around Times Square it means that Liberty will be much bigger than what we expected.
