Lancet Jades (Johnny) recently shared some tricks on how to get to the 2nd island (PS2), all of which I think are new. Here are portions of his email to me:

QUOTE
1. Get the hydraulics for Taxis, then jump a Cabbie or Taxi  between the east bridge off Starfish Island and the lone tree south of it (on Diaz's property). Jump parallel to the bridge, and bail out. If you're lucky, the game should semi-glitch, and you'll end up in the ped walkway of the bridge. Then just walk to the 2nd island. A very hit or miss method, but
works.

2. Get a Yankee and back it up to that spot (between the tree and the bridge). Try to get the right-hand wheels right next to the bridge structure. When you get out, it'll sort of glitch and tilt, with the right side pointing up. Get on top of it, and do a running jump. The altitude this tilt gives you is sufficient to barely jump over the invisilbe wall that stretches up. The tilt is critical. Without it, you just can't make it. Again, hit or miss, because getting the Yankee backed up far enough, and with the tilt, without it falling off the land mass, is difficult.

With 1 and 2, there's a way to rescue yourself if you fail and fall in the water. If it's raining in the game, the swells of the ocean are enough to give you enough height to jump up on the land to the north of the bridge, but ONLY if its stormy. Calm waters make it a graveyard. The alternative is to swim southwest. The border of Diaz's propety has lots of right angles, with a sloped stone wall leading down to the ocean. Go to the southern-most eastern corner, and you'll find one part of the wall that you can actually run up. Doing this, you can often find another Taxi or Yankee on the streets of Starfish, allowing for another attempt rather quickly. If you need more stamina, just try and climb any other portion of the stone wall. You'll run along it (but not up), which isn't much, but allows you to recover stamina, enough to make it the rest of the way.

3. This resembles LCS' trick, but infinitely less bothersome, and much easier. Know that dirt mound with a police bribe at the top pointing west, near Escobar's main terminal building (it's a bit southwest of it)? Beyond that mound, there's a pipe in the ground. The trick is to jump on the pipe from the top of the mound. Sometimes, when you do this, it teleports you into Leaf Links, which allows access to the east island. This is even more hit or miss than 1 and 2, but the recoil time for a failed attempt is about 2-3 seconds, making it the easiest and most time-effective means of access.

#3 is particularly interesting. Sounds easy and less hassle.

I can confirm three works, though for a second, I thought I'd got the wrong pipe. I jumped and sort of went into a stoppie as I landed. Vic did the animation you'd see if you were about to fall off and I sank in the pipe and dropped about a couple metres down onto Leaf Links. Bit of a mouthful I know, but there's confirmation.

Well that's cool then. At least that should save us the trouble and headache jumping over that damn barrier.

Thanks for the confirmation Mister Zero icon14.gif

On another note, I tested radioman's reco method but so far haven't worked yet.

Go to Starfish Island, in the back of the nearest mansion to the left of the bridge and use a Sanchez. Start your run near the pool and do a wheelie just before you hit the barrier to the left of the largest palm tree.

I also can cofirm that this method works and you dont have to have a vehicle, just jump down on the pipe and you will slide off and the screen shakes a bit and POOF the "welcome to Vice City" postcard appears and you are now on Leaf Links. This trick will take some health away but not much.

Thanks for the screenies Win98crash. They can sure help a lot those that need visuals on the location.

That method indeed works like magic. It's more failproof than the other methods known so far. It even works more consistently than the LCS trick. In LCS, sometimes you can attempt for hours and not have the teleport work. But in VCS, it doesn't fail.

Some people, like myself, like to get all the hidden packages and rampages and unique jumps out of the way early to create a good "beginning" save, so when they start a new game next time they will not have to do all of this all over again.

On-topic: The trick works where you transport to the leaf links, I tried it twice and it worked both times. Good find on whoever discovered it.

If basically the same teleport trick works for VCS as it was in LCS,(given that they have the same game engine) I suspect that there might be at least one side mission on the other island (similar to the AWOL Angel mission trick) that can be done to trigger a 6 star wantel level so that you can steal a Rhino very early on.

I have strong hunch it could be Crash!, but I haven't found the damn coach yet. It's just a theory that might work and be useful.

the pipe teleport works great i've got 34 rampages 97 balloons and done quite a few of the street races but another great thing i found was the Violators spawns along with all the other boats at the pier and the VCPD Chopper spawns aswell so you can fly back or travel back easily

Ok, this is weird.

I did the pipe trick and a nanosecond before the Welcome To Vice City screen appeared I heard the sound of a jet. When I appeared in Leaf Links the jet noise was still there, like I was inside it or right beside it. As I walked around the noise changed a bit so I went and got a Caddy thinking it would stop it, but it didn't.

I captured some audio of it so if anyone wants to hear it or host it and post a link send me a PM with an email address and I'll send it your way. It's a 590kb MP3 file around 50 seconds long.

Yup, that happens to me often too. Sound glitch obviously. It won't just go away not until you save or reload your game.

Depends I guess on how far you're into the 1st island missions. Many of the side missions/objectives and races on both islands will be available only after you've completed certain storyline missions.

The air races in particular won't be avaialble not until you've unlocked the other island and have done some missions there. But so far, as early as after the 1st mission "Soldier", some of the side missions/objectives doable already are BMX, Quad and Sanchez Time Trials, Playground on the Town, Playground on the Point, Playground on the Dock, Rush and the Rampages.

Thought I'd post a tip for anyone doing things on the east island and wants to get back over there easily.

Once you are done getting some balloons or whatever and need to save, go get the VCPD Heli on top of the Washington Beach Police building and fly back to the west island. Now, after you land your heli and get out, get in another (2nd) vehicle and then save.

When you come back out of your safehouse the last vehicle you just got in will be gone, but the heli should still be there. Now you can fly back to the east side easily and continue what you were doing.

I'm sure a lot of people know this already, but it's nice to have a chopper to fly back with rather than having to teleport over there and get yourself out of the golf course each time.

It sucks that a lot of the side missions aren't open yet though.

Hey that's cool Win98crash, thanks for the tip icon14.gif I've been trying to figure out how to keep the heli when I need to save.

I wonder if that might work too with the missions. Gonna try this trick later.

No problem GTA_Loco. I assume the last-vehicle-you-use-disappears bug and how to get around it has been talked about in the VCS PS2 Bugs & Glitches thread, but I haven't read every post in there. Makes you wonder if they tested VCS at all? dozingoff.gif
