Unofficial Mods
- Modding the Mod -

Many people see the GTA:LC files and think of all the cool ways they could mod GTA III in VC's engine. Hey, we all want to have fun, right? Well just like with GTA III and GTA:VC, anybody with GTA:LC installed can mod their game to their liking however they want.

In the past, we have pushed aside all such talk because we only had the one thread to work with and that was our only way to get work done. But we want you to have fun and to be able to enjoy our work any way you like. So now you can have this thread to release your mods for GTA:LC, offer ideas, suggestions, and requests for such mods.

So what's the difference between an official mod and unofficial mod? For the most part, it's just going to be the difference between what's actually in GTA III and what isn't. If it's in GTA III, then it belongs in GTA:LC. If it's not in GTA III, then it could be an unofficial mod and belongs here.

See this post for a full list of suggestions for unofficial mods that came about as a result of a not-so-recent poll about what should be added to the official version of LC.

If your mod isn't listed here, post in this thread to make us aware of its existence.

Northern Lights Update
Can you name me without the underscore?

EDIT by Ben - Sure smile.gif. I'll wait til MegaVovaN posts a link for this before I update it on the table, but I've fixed your name up for the Empty LC entry.

Also, I take it that this update will fix the problem in the "PLEASE NOTE" section at the bottom of the first post?

I don't know if this is where I am supposed to post this(I'm pretty sure because it has to do with unofficial mods for LC)but is there a stripped version of the latest(or close to the latest)main.scm for liberty city because right now I'm working with a Totally_stripped.txt for vice city and importing the save function is one thing importing the trains and car crusher is another sad.gif

The LC MB should have a stripped script in it (there's a link to it at the bottom of the first post). I'm not much of a coder, so I can't help you out much more than that, but if you know what you're doing, you should be able to look through the full LC SCM and import the code for the crusher, for saves, for the train, and for anything else you want over to the stripped SCM (with changes of course - I don't think it will work directly).

Good luck smile.gif.

EDIT - Actually, I'm not sure how old the stripped script in that download is. Probably pretty old. I don't think there's a more up-to-date version confused.gif.

Last year I downloaded it and the LC MB it did come with a stripped script but my hard drive got erased I downloaded it again a couple days ago the stripped scripts are vice city ones.

I guess I will try by myself to import the trains and other stuff myself but I'm still pretty new to main.scm coding.

Stripped Complete
Stripped mission script based on Barton's stripped complete file for Vice City. Look into that file for more information.

And yes, that Northern Lights update fixed the crash. I think the crash was because of the limited amount of entries that can be placed in the 2dfx section in the IDE.

Thanks icon14.gif. I've added the stripped SCM to the list, but I've left off the old version of the NL mod - I don't really see the need to add an old version of a mod.

space, if you'd like me to add it, just send a PM my way or reply here smile.gif.

No. For two reasons. Firstly, saying that you can't open the SCM would be a lie if you can play LC on your computer - the memory requirements for LC far outweigh those needed to open the SCM. And secondly, the SCM changes too often - each time there's a change, you'd have to re-add the interior into the new SCM. However, I'm considering adding the interior to the official version of LC, so this problem might be overcome - I'll let you know more when I've made my decision.

Anyways, to open the SCM, you'll need to download a copy of MB (it's linked in the first post of this topic). The first time you run it, you'll need to point it to your LC folder. Then, when it's running, go to File -> Open, and select your MAIN.SCM.TXT file. Then you can follow the instructions in the readme to install the mod.

That's fine smile.gif. I'd ask you to search, but the search function is down at the moment. I have written a guide to modding specifically for LC that you can check out here - it tells you what tools you need, and provides links.

Good luck wink.gif.

Yes - The camera! I hated that you only got the camera once in Vice City. I wonder if there's a way to make it save the pictures like in San Andreas. Oh well that's better suit for the modding section.
Great job, though.

The link was most likely dead when I updated the list a year ago (I don't know how long ago it actually was, but it was a pretty long time ago). Anything with a dead link I just removed from the list - no-one had any copies of those mods either confused.gif.

But if you've got a copy of it (or anything else from back in the day), please share it and I'll update the list smile.gif.

Hey guys! Well, I suppose this is the place to suggest mods for LC.

So... there is something that keeps itching me, and is the fact that we can't swim and climb walls like we used to do in San Andreas.
I know nothing about modding, but I do know that GTA:LC works with Vice City, which lacks on climb and swim feature.
I was wondering if there is any way, to strip that from SA and put in a mod for LC, Or even normal VC. That would be awesome!

And I couldn't find any topics about that suggestion (probably they exist I know), and I can't look for 57 pages in the last topic about mods.
So, if has been posted, I would know where the find the discussion about it please!

Thanks. colgate.gif

With my upcoming GTA:MA, using SA animations in VC is dead-easy. A minimal skill (not even modelling skill) in using gmax/3dsm is required.

*However* the sticking point is the physics, especially with swimming. This isn't just a matter of playing an animation. If you can get someone to code the physics of it in assembler (or some other language that gets hooked into the exe), I could give some assistance.

But it would be quite some task that could take plenty of work.
