Unofficial Mods - Modding the Mod -Many people see the GTA:LC files and think of all the cool ways they could mod GTA III in VC's engine. Hey, we all want to have fun, right? Well just like with GTA III and GTA:VC, anybody with GTA:LC installed can mod their game to their liking however they want. In the past, we have pushed aside all such talk because we only had the one thread to work with and that was our only way to get work done. But we want you to have fun and to be able to enjoy our work any way you like. So now you can have this thread to release your mods for GTA:LC, offer ideas, suggestions, and requests for such mods. So what's the difference between an official mod and unofficial mod? For the most part, it's just going to be the difference between what's actually in GTA III and what isn't. If it's in GTA III, then it belongs in GTA:LC. If it's not in GTA III, then it could be an unofficial mod and belongs here. See this post for a full list of suggestions for unofficial mods that came about as a result of a not-so-recent poll about what should be added to the official version of LC.
If your mod isn't listed here, post in this thread to make us aware of its existence.Unofficial Releases: Modding Tools:Below is a list of some of the most common tools you'll need when it comes to installing the mods listed above. However, I also recommend you check out the Tools forum for a more complete list. | Tool | Author | Description |
|---|
| IMG Tool 2.0 | Spooky | For modifying you gta3.img file (adding, deleting, etc., files from the archive). | | Mission Builder 1.5 | Barton Waterduck | For modifying your main.scm (customised for Liberty City). | Collision File Editor II (link to Official Site) | steve-m | For editing files with .col extension, which control collision data. |
PLEASE NOTE: - For information on how to install a mod, please contact the author via PM if a readme is not included.
- The mods are not guaranteed to work with all versions of GTA:LC, although most should work.

The LC MB should have a stripped script in it (there's a link to it at the bottom of the first post). I'm not much of a coder, so I can't help you out much more than that, but if you know what you're doing, you should be able to look through the full LC SCM and import the code for the crusher, for saves, for the train, and for anything else you want over to the stripped SCM (with changes of course - I don't think it will work directly). Good luck . EDIT - Actually, I'm not sure how old the stripped script in that download is. Probably pretty old. I don't think there's a more up-to-date version .

No. For two reasons. Firstly, saying that you can't open the SCM would be a lie if you can play LC on your computer - the memory requirements for LC far outweigh those needed to open the SCM. And secondly, the SCM changes too often - each time there's a change, you'd have to re-add the interior into the new SCM. However, I'm considering adding the interior to the official version of LC, so this problem might be overcome - I'll let you know more when I've made my decision.
Anyways, to open the SCM, you'll need to download a copy of MB (it's linked in the first post of this topic). The first time you run it, you'll need to point it to your LC folder. Then, when it's running, go to File -> Open, and select your MAIN.SCM.TXT file. Then you can follow the instructions in the readme to install the mod.

Hey guys! Well, I suppose this is the place to suggest mods for LC. So... there is something that keeps itching me, and is the fact that we can't swim and climb walls like we used to do in San Andreas. I know nothing about modding, but I do know that GTA:LC works with Vice City, which lacks on climb and swim feature. I was wondering if there is any way, to strip that from SA and put in a mod for LC, Or even normal VC. That would be awesome! And I couldn't find any topics about that suggestion (probably they exist I know), and I can't look for 57 pages in the last topic about mods. So, if has been posted, I would know where the find the discussion about it please! Thanks.

With my upcoming GTA:MA, using SA animations in VC is dead-easy. A minimal skill (not even modelling skill) in using gmax/3dsm is required. *However* the sticking point is the physics, especially with swimming. This isn't just a matter of playing an animation. If you can get someone to code the physics of it in assembler (or some other language that gets hooked into the exe), I could give some assistance. But it would be quite some task that could take plenty of work. Alex
