^Now that Matt is out of rehab, he can tour again! Only a month away from hitting our sunny, southern shores.
And three of the big four - everyone but Megadeth - will be touring down here for the Soundwave festival early next year. Looking forward to that. Shame the rumors for Down didn't eventuate but they may touring here anyway.

Soundwave!
Metallica, Slayer, The Offspring, A Perfect Circle, Anthrax...awesome!
Honestly, I think Megadeth might be announced in a 3rd announcement. It doesn't make that much sense to get 3 of the big 4.
Went to a hell of a lot of shows the past couple of weeks.
------------------------
TL;DR version: Deftones, System of A Down, Exhumed, Goatwhore, Periphery, Job For A Cowboy, The Faceless, Between The Buried and Me, Cannibal Corpse, Gojira and Car Bomb.
Going to photograph the Iron Will Tour w/ Kataklysm, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Origin and Vital Remains.
------------------------
Saw System of A Down and Deftones in Chicago. Sure, they aren't the heaviest, most tr00 metal bands, but the nostalgia factor was insane. Deftones always put on a decent show, plus it was my first time seeing System in over 10 years, and could be the last. System actually put on a fantastic show, and the energy coming from the crowd was insanely intense. I haven't been in a crowd that was that electric in a long time. Maybe it had something to do with me being really drunk....either way, a good time was had.
Then the day after was Summer Slaughter. Solid f*cking line-up. Exhumed, Goatwhore, Periphery, Between The Buried and Me, The Faceless, Job For a Cowboy, and Cannibal Corpse. Veil of Maya was there too, but I don't care for them, their set was just time for me to catch up on some needed beer time. BTBAM played some new stuff which was killer. They were actually probably the highlight of the entire show, they play everything so f*cking perfect, the musicianship is stellar.
The Faceless, Goatwhore, Exhumed, Job For A Cowboy were all fun. I love Periphery, so I was stoked to see them for the second time in a span of a few months. They're quite amazing live. I've never seen Cannibal Corpse, so to actually see corpsegrinder in the flesh was intimidating. f*ckers huge. Their set was okay, kind of boring after awhile actually, but I'm glad I finally saw them.
Two days after Summer Slaughter I saw Gojira. Car Bomb opened for them, who I hadn't heard of till the day before. My friend told me I would like them since I dig early Dillinger Escape Plan, and sure enough, Car Bomb was f*cking awesome. Shot the sh*t with Car bomb's merch guy, got some vinyl from him on a fluke. They were actually all out, so he offered me a discount on the vinyl they used for display on tour. I still payed in full, cuz ya know, bands need to get to the next town.
Needless to say, Gojira was f*cking excellent, as always. It was my third time seeing them and my third time walking away in disbelief at how great they are live. Their bass player was sick as all hell, probably ate some bad Milwaukee mexican food. But he toughed it out and still put on a killer show.
Tonight I'm heading to Chicago for the Iron Will tour. Actually photographing this show. Kataklysm, Origin, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Vital Remains. Honestly, I only really give a sh*t about Fleshgod and Vital Remains. I've seen and photographed Fleshgod before, but have never seen Vital Remains live. Kataklysm is boring, and the past 3 or 4 albums they've put out all sound like the same song. Not too crazy about Origin either.
@Moon, unless I'm getting my shots published, I don't really care about the watermark on my photos. The shots I got from Agalloch were mediocre at best. The venue they played sucks because it's so small, so shooting there is extremely irritating.

Really liking Atra Mors by Evoken
@Digital Murders: Great photos, wouldn't really say mediocre at all. @Moonshield: I found Aesop's blog when i posted those Ludicra songs a while back, hes their drummer too, unique stuff he have there.
So I worked the Iron Will tour on Sunday. Not sure if it was the sh*tty weather, Chicago traffic or the fact I was still nursing a hangover from the night before, but I was not in the mood or mindset to be shooting a show. Let alone a death metal gig. Even worse, was the fact it was probably one of the most demanding environments I've worked in to date.
There was no photo-pit for this particular show, so I had to stand in the crowd. What made things worse, was that this crowd was extremely rude. Then to top it off, the lightening on stage was absolutely horrendous. In fact, it was almost non-existent. All of this culminating in my worst gig ever.
Bah. The worst part is that I have two more shows to shoot at this venue in October and November. I'm going to try a technique I have yet to utilize in my concert work (mostly because I've never needed to) to try and compensate for the complete lack of lighting.
Here are a few of the better shots I got, mainly just Vital Remains and Kataklysm:
Honestly, the only band that was really worth seeing that night was Origin, who I also photographed. They put on an excellent show and were very crowd orientated.
On a good note, got an email from Devin Townsend's publicist and will be shooting DTP and Katatonia in a few weeks. Super excited to say the least.

Love the shots with the red lightning, and Kataklysm's drum head logo is kinda funny... But Katatonia and DTP ? That must be amazing, hope you take some great photos that day.
Speaking of Katatonia, i was just listening to their newest album, and i must say it felt a bit incomplete. Lots of repetitive riffs and melodies. But anyway it had a couple of good songs, just still not really used to this new era "script".

That's all it was was red lighting. That place was awful.
Yeah, I don't get Katatonia. In theory I should like them. But I just don't. I love Opeth, I dig Novembre, Omnium Gatherum, Ikuinen Kaamos, In Vain. Swallow the Sun is okay (awful live imo) but Katatonia is just, boring to me. I saw them open for Opeth last year and they're f*cking great live, so I gave them another listen at home and I could not get in to it at all.
So....I guess I'm looking forward to seeing them? I don't know. But I'm excited either way. And Devin Townsend is awesome live. It's going to be fun hearing the new stuff.
Speaking of new stuff, just picked up the Spylacopa EP. Came out a few years ago, but it's new to me! Kind of a super-group thing with John LaMacchia, Greg Puciato, Jeff Caxide, and Julie Christmas. Cool f*cking stuff, check it out.
^ YouTube Wizard Eye they are a local band that sounds in the same vein really good sh*t. Another is the electric horsemen - bloodtaker or farms for food great great sh*t n swell guys to boot.

Big Business/Melvins Lite on Thursday. 3rd time seeing Big Biz and they put on a f*cking radass show. Snagged their new 7" and have been blaring it nonstop. Melvins lite was fanf*ckingtastic. Second time seeing Melvins and first time seeing Melvins Lite. Trevor Dunn is a f*cking monster on the upright bass.

I don't see this topic, Electric Wizard is sick, I like this bands like a Candlemass, Trouble, Running Wild, Overkill, Witchfinder General, Tygers of Pan Tang & SATAN (the last three NWOBHM stuff), yes the last is funny name but is amazing like a '80 NWOBHM bands, so, I like the old stuff only, the new for my sucks in my opinion (only some albums sounds good), In the past months I try listen a band named GHOST and is the only band like of "New Bands" a perfect mix of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, the world needs this bands not sh*tty thrashing new fags to Kids never compared with Nuclear Assault, Sodom, Vendetta, Kreator, Coroner (my favorite band) or other old stuff and really Thrash Metal, so, I'm only 21 years but the old stuff is the best.

Any Warbringer fans?
Saw them a couple years ago, the gig was insane. I ended up wrapped up in their singer's microphone wire, what with him climbing all over the roof above the stage. Bunch of nutters.
Well since every one seems to be on the topic of the older generation of metal, can any one recommend me any UFO? I'm supposed to be shooting them and writing up a review, but know nothing of their catalog except for their some sort of thrashy band.
