I think the format would be better like this: CarsRationale: - The tool, what it does and what it supports is the most important information.
- There might not always be a GTAF topic link. Putting this at the end allows it to be left out without having gaps the in middle of tables.
- The colour-coded text just makes the headings harder to read. Also means you have to scroll further before getting to real information.
- Making the headings part of the table makes them harder to pick out.
- Moving the headings outside of the tables and using a large text size makes them stand out as being section headings.
- Making the tool name a link to the homepage reduces the number of columns and the amount of BBcode which has to be maintained. It also aids scanning of the topic, which naturally runs down the left side of the content area.
- Making the link text more meaningful would make the topic easier to scan through. I think that's important when there are so many links to choose from. A Download link implies that clicking it will download the file directly; but this is currently being used for a lot of homepages. Ideally, links to pages should use the title of the page they go to as their link text.
- You might include a link to the topic for each tool, where it has one. That would make reporting bugs and asking tool-specific questions easier without the need to create a new topic.
- Being consistent with the game editions and seperators might be helpful. "3", "VC" and "SA" are short and easy to type. I'd tend to use a comma and a space (, ) between each edition when multiple are supported. Forward slash (/) implies a heirarchy, like file paths and URIs.
- The hyphens just cause more scrolling. The end of each table is clear from the cell borders, imho.
Delfi's tools for GTA3, GTAVC and GTASA are widely used, IIRC. (Incidentally, CFG Studio 2 can edit *.ide and *.ipl files just about as ably as it can edit handling.cfg files. So it could go in any/all of "Cars", "Environment" and "Map Related" sections.) This post has been edited by Cerbera on Monday, Jun 18 2007, 17:48

| QUOTE (Cerbera @ Jul 22 2007, 10:26) | As I predicted, this topic is not being maintained. The forum system automatically indexes the topics in this area. They are searchable from the area search, the forum-wide search and from external search engines like Google.
Don't waste time doing things which are already automatic. |
I may be missing the point, but wtf are you talking about? Your link is a link back to this topic... Not being maintained? I didn't know there was anything to add up there... (Do you know of anything new that could/should be added?) This is a collection of links that aren't necessarily just for "quick finding". I'm sure RESpooner knows that most of the people using this list are able to use google, and probably do. But this topic sure is a great place to point people to when they ask stupid questions that they could have just looked at pin topics for. Don't waste time doing things which are already automatic? How was this a waste of time. Oh, I see, because YOU have a way of doing things and YOU already use google, and YOU know that google can read the forum's indexing tables. Not everyone else does. And... Man, there are so many things wrong with your post ,cerb. I just keep drawing back to "wtf is he talking about?" I don't understand. If it is written the way I keep reading it, then I certainly will be quick to point out how you turned away from myriad and said f*ck GTAF, so bumrushing into this topic and being so unclear OR judgmentally critical, well, I think you better start from somewhere else man. I'm obviously not the boss of you, and I don't dislike you at all. I miss our short chats from time to time and we've touched on some stuff together and done some figger-it-outs. This post? I can't figger it out. It actually looks like you are having a bad day... on or offline, I dont know. I hope not I hope u are having a swell time come on IRC sometime mofo! and clean teh damn inbox so you can get pm's! edit: lolz, are you talking about the format post you made above?
