As many of you know, the MyriadIslands.com website is horribly out of date. The pictures are still from the VC version, and it doesnt contain much if any information about whats going on with myriad islands. It's an almost useless resource. This topic is for us to bounce around ideas for a redesign. Features, and design. I'm not much of a web developer but I can produce some simple sites and manipulate code. If no one else is willing to take on the task, then I'm willing to give it a shot. We also need to know who has acess to the myriadislands.com server. Please feel free to post ANY thoughts reguarding the website.

Hmmm... Probably should just make a simple two or three page website. The mod is just to crazy and anarchistic to do the database format we had planned. Plus, with the way radiosity works, lot-by-lot downloads for the non-modders just wouldn't work.

Perhaps a front page with a brief summary, a few screens, and download links? Then a detailed about/history page, and a media page with lots of screens?

Having something like a map of what's about for people to click on and see pictures would be alright. Steve-M had that lot list floating around somewhere didn't he? Having that and then the ability to click on the lot to see wtfs on it so far would be good. Fair bit of work in it but yeah it'll just be something for people to keep an eye on.

The main thing the site will need is actually someone to keep the damn thing updated. I know it's a lot of work but would it be possible to have it linked into the current forum database (like GTAGarage is) and allow MICC members to update the news section etc?

I know HTML and JScript myself, so really I'm not exactly qualified for a job like this.

I didn't have FTP access until recently; unfortunately I don't have the time right now to update the site (as planned). But I will in about a week.

First thing to do would be to create some static info pages. E.g. split up the front page into general information and a separate download page, add a FAQ page, and maybe one linking to the lot maps (and the related topics). Since I already had parts of the planned CMS working, we could at least re-use the news system (having small news articles on the front page keeping visitors and contributers up to date), and a back-end allowing council members to login to post news and edit static pages. I think for history stuff we can use what we had collected for the newsletter, just needs an update.

As for screenshots, it would be great if someone could already start making/collecting them. Best would be ones without HUD/radar, both areal and action shots, preferably with high draw distance, high resolution and AA, and all in the same aspect ratio. But try to keep it to scenes from the released or upcoming 0.6 package, no WIP stuff people won't see ingame yet (and no renders). Try to keep them as hi-res and lightly compressed as possible; if you need webspace that can be arranged (sites like imageshack re-compress them, no?). And we need some design ideas for a nice, small Myriad watermark logo thingy (but please don't add anything to the screenshots yet).

I like the 2D buttons in number 1 better than the 3D buttons in number 2, but I'm not sure about the worn margins. Maybe it will look better with content ?

With the 2D buttons, maybe you could have it lighten up a bit when you move your mouse over it to make it more "interactive"?

Nice one Mr. T. Reminds me of a travel brochure. Quite fitting. It looks like the aspect ratio of the star is off a wee bit though. Unless I'm just seeing things. We still have all the articles produced for the Myriad Islands Newsletter, although all four could do with updates. If anyone is interested in adding/updating an article then let me know.

As for designs, the one that was been worked on a couple of years ago didn't look too bad imo. It wasn't too dis-similar to the one thats currently up on MI dot com, in-fact it only had minor changes but worked well enough. If we are going for a new design I think it should be based off the rest of the network sites at GTANet. Decent header with title, sidebar with MI/network links and content pages in the middle. The decent sized borders split everything up well enough, the sites all on the network all have a similar/same design but all look different.

all the designs in here are very good and better than i can do, but my favourite has got to be Mr T's design because it doesn't look like every other site on the net.

maybe use the MI font and get the scale on the star right and it could be a winner.

oh, thats tight too! Would need to utilize those right side small columns with scrollies.

If there were a vote, I still like T's the best because of the #6699?? color with the red. I like the contrast.

Can you add some color to that one?
