Here's my observations while running the game in 333mHz mode. I sent them to edison and he told me to post them, so here you go:
- Turning on 333mHz mode DRAMATICALLY improves the framerate. In fact, it locks it at a smooth 30 FPS. This change is apparent even in calm situations like standing in Toni's apartment. Watch the spinning health icon in 222mHz mode, then switch to 333. Here's the awesome part: I went outside, spawned a Hunter, and flew to Shoreside Vale. I set the weather to "Rain" and began to shoot dozens of missiles into crowded traffic. Cars were exploding everywhere and parts were showering the streets. In 222mHz mode, the game bogged down and became quite choppy. When I switched to 333mHz mode, the game was LOCKED at 30 FPS (CORRECTION: 60FPS. Version 0.5a has an FPS counter and edison verified this), without even a stutter from this speed. With all the carnage and weather effects, the framerate was perfect. I just wanted to let you know about this because you originally said the difference could only be seen when many cars were on screen when in fact the entire game has been dramatically affected.
- The draw distance speed is improved. I rarely get any pop-in, even when flying in the Hunter, which used to be a glitchy mess because of the draw distance speed.
- Load times are identical, but I have the feeling that is because they are hardcoded to be 8 seconds long rather than varying on processor speed.
- Battery life is affected. I'd say you get 30% less life out of the battery when running the game in 33mHz mode. Which makes sense, because the processor speed is increased to 150% of its original speed.
- The system felt like it might have been generating a bit more heat, but it could all be in my mind. It might have been the heat from my hands that I was feeling.
Anyway, I saw that you needed someone to test out battery life, so I figured I would mess around with 333mHz mode and give you some results that might interest you. The framerate was my main observation - your CheatDevice has eliminated one of the only flaws this game has, and that is a huge accomplishment. Not to mention the countless other things you have provided the GTA community with.

Because, until I see GTA running at 60fps, imho Ridge Racer will be the best looking PSP game out there, only because it has a silky smooth framerate... I wish more PSP games were like this... I've already seen somewhat of a preview of what T-V is talking about when I drive on the airport runway. For some reason I seem to always want to go to that area of the game, probably because its the smoothest running part of the game... Battery life doesn't worry me. I just got a Datel 4gb HDD and X2 battery, so that'll help.

| QUOTE (GTA3Freak-2001 @ Dec 20 2005, 01:05) | I take it that there are instablilities when using many features at one time, for example I had the infinite health, never fall of bike, heavy bikes, and power jump activated as well as setting the CPU to 333Mhz and I've recieved 2 crashes of the game. Is this to do with the 333Mhz or the fact that I was using many features at one time?
Other then that I applaud you again, you just keep adding to this thing making it better and better. |
That's strange, I've never seen a released version crash once it's loading and working, other than specific game things that are expected to crash like certain spawned vehicles. What firmware version are you on? I did occasionally accidentally unload it by hitting L1+R1+UP when I was playing with weapons with No Reloading. I want to add a confirmation dialog to that. | QUOTE (Piny @ Dec 20 2005, 06:05) | edisoncarter, i said this before, but i really would like to use the cheatdevice on my german version of GTA LCS. so please, can you make a version that runs on the german version?
i want to make videos!! |
I can't unless I can figure out how to get my hands on a German copy of the game. Lik-sang doesn't have it. Any other ideas? The German version has certain things taken out, so I expect the offsets to be different from the UK version. | QUOTE (Spielmann @ Dec 20 2005, 08:15) | i made sumthing too... tadaaaa....
Cheatdevice 0.5 - Video Viewer on PSP w/ that program you are able to watch your movies on your PSP - animated!

I added a fps meter to check this and T-V is right, it does speed up the framerate at all times unless it's already pegged at 60 fps. I was seeing about 30-35 fps at 222MHz and about 50-60 fps at 333MHz. It hits a max limit at 60fps. v0.5a: Frames per second meter added to coordinates display For all firmware versions: US/Canada version 0.5a http://www.maxbot.com/gta/CheatDevice05aUS.zipUK/EU version 0.5a http://www.maxbot.com/gta/CheatDevice05aUK.zipThe fps meter is included on 2.6, but the 333MHz option is not.
