Forgive me for encouraging you to think a bit deeper for yourself Let's put it this way: When I have a question, I search existing topics so that I'm not needlessly creating a topic. If you'll look in the forum you posted this in, you'll see it's the 7th thread on SA 2.0. I've got money on that you didn't check there first. If you and everybody else did, we'd have one topic, all posters working together, and maybe some progress made. But for as long as anybody who got the game is willing to create another thread on the subject (or as is the case with Stab, 4 topics each with about a dozen consecutive posts a la soliloquy), nobody will get anywhere.

| QUOTE (Demarest @ Sep 28 2005, 07:55) | | Maybe we should keep all the 2.0 modability talk in one thread |
yes. this one. stab's (any of them) were too spammed up to be productive. Regarding the question at hand, its too early to give a such a definitive answer. but if what i've seen and read so far is any indication, there are at least changes made that will make the process different for 2.00 users, if not very difficult to impossible. Most of the people who know what to look for and how to mod the game, have already bought it for the pc, and even for the ps2. i dont think they want to buy it a 2nd or 3rd time, just to determine if its moddable. R* changed some stuff which alters the modding process, go complain to them.

well technically they didnt "support" mods on the 1.01 and 1.00 versions either. Send this to them: http://www.rockstargames.com/sanandreas/pc/Go to features, then read the last feature: | QUOTE | | Player modifications support, giving PC gamers the opportunity to create their own world within San Andreas |
Now no matter how you interpret that, it is a 100% solid, bold faced lie. they should atleast take it off their website, since its more than misleading. Usually companies "twist" the truth a bit, but this is straight up wrong, especially with 2.00.

I've sent them this, hopefully I'll get an informative reply. I'm not sending to tech support though, because I think that it is more of a mouth-off, no? We'll see what happens anyways; I had also attached images of the site.| QUOTE | Dear Sir/Madam I have been informed that the executable of the newest version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been modified to prevent game mods from being installed. Many members of the Grand Theft Auto community are very unhappy because they cannot download save games, vehicle mods, player skins (which I am working on now, but am very unhappy that not everyone with GTA: San Andreas will get to use it.), weapons, missions, worlds, and/or total conversions. The PC version of the San Andreas site gives the false impression that the game is modifiable, by saying...
| QUOTE | | "For more information on all things Grand Theft Auto including unofficial mods, skins and forums chock full of bizarre rumours - check out the following selection from our web ring...." |
and by also saying...
| QUOTE | | "PC gamers around the world can now experience the epic videogame experience that is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - fully optimized for the PC platform featuring polished and enhanced graphics, visual effects, soundtrack capabilities, instant replay, player mod support and more." |
I have also attached captures of your website, with the same quotes. I own the PS2 version and the PC version purely because I want to modify GTA: San Andreas, and add extra replayability values to the game for others and I around the globe. I expect there to be a patch released for all gamers with the SE version of GTA: San Andreas, which allows them to download modifications to their PC for play with GTA: San Andreas. I'd also like a reply in 2-5 business days, so I can be assured that you have read my e-mail and the actions you have decided to take. Your Faithfully Simon Campbell |
@adam: I also thought that the website was misleading. This post has been edited by simoncampbell on Thursday, Sep 29 2005, 04:50

Though I do not suggest many people e-mailing them, or they'll get pissed off . I should have included in the e-mail, 'if this e-mail has found the wrong person please forward on".

That e-mail did not work, yet I got it off nomorehotcoffee....
While I try find a valid adress, I kinda knew that they were going to disable modding a while ago. I wasn't sure when....
This is the article, I got the information from for whoever wants to read it.
Click
| QUOTE (Bottom Paragraph @ Australian Gamepro) | | In response to the outcry, Rockstar stated that it intends to take steps to prevent hackers from modding the game. "Since the 'Hot Coffee' scenes cannot be created without intentional and significant technical modifications and reverse-engineering of the game's source code, we are currently investigating ways that we can increase the security protection of the source code." |
Obviously they found a way, and re-released the game as SE , this doesn't look pretty. I'm hoping my e-mail (which more than likely won't) will influence them to release some sort of patch to remove such a code from the exe. Because all this is leading to is less sales, less money and more people wanting 1.00 which has to be warez to get . This isn't gonna be pretty.

christ, i remember reading that. they don't realize, that not only are they solving the wrong problem, but promoting the larger warez issue, which is bad for the industry in general. but i guess keeping the CEO's pocketbook full and pleasing politicians is all that matters these days well, we'll see how much longer i stick around here. i know Opius has been looking into HL2 and the hammer editor. i bought Doom 3 the other day, and am a big fan of Unreal and Battlefield. its refreshing to visit communities where modding is not only supported, but encouraged. and the publishers don't stick their dick in your ass after you lay down money for their products. between gta3 ps2 and SA PC, i've layed down $300 on gta games, @ $50 a pop. in reality, the modders spend more money on gta (usually buying the game twice) than most of the gta "players". im not sure if that makes me a dedicated fan, or a sucker. considering how we get treated, i'd have to lean toward the latter.

There are still quite a few people more than content with it on console. In fact, the people not buying it for PC to mod it are usually buying it for PC to use mods for it.

Put two and two together.
