Here's a little bit of news for the people who were disappointed with the update I made earlier today. PSM (an unofficial U.S. PlayStation Magazine) are reporting that Liberty City Stories will feature a brand new snow weather effect! The magazine's October issue, which goes on sale early in September also reports the game's only loading screens will be on the initial startup of the game and when moving between the game's three islands.

"This weather effect is actually new to the GTA universe, not just Liberty City. The one thing to keep in mind is that it will actually affect the driving physics, as the roads become more slippery."
-- PSM Magazine Issue 102

Their preview is based on a near final build of the game, and they claim that they were actually allowed to play it! Quite a first for any magazine - they've only watched it so far.

I'd assume plenty more editors of magazines received the same demonstration of the game - I'll cover them all in depth over the coming weeks, so keep your browser pointing to this site!

Thanks for the news HunterĄ have a cookie.gif .

One thing about LCS is that some things are being improved substantially like the weather effects and the previously reported new car reflections, lets just hope it keeps up to the high standard we usualy receive.

On a completely unreated note i just bought a PSP today so i am very happy that i will be able to play LCS biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif .

I wonder if there will be any noticable difference with surfaces after snow, like a snow decal texture. I'm sure that there will not be any piles of snow, since it is computationally expensive, but just small layers of snow can be done with texturing fairly concervatively.

Congrads. Good machine. Don't update the firmware if you want to run homebrewed software.

If he wants to play any future games, updating is a requirement. sad.gif

Eventually, yes. But at the moment, it is not necessary. Hopefully, 2.0 will get hacked after it comes out in US. I want to be able to use a web browser and run the SNES emulator.

I think, 2.0 was supposed to have came out in Japan allready. The US release hasn't been announced, afaik.

Here is the Japanese firmware update page:
http://www.playstation.jp/psp/update/ud_01.html

Google translates:

Here is a good FAQ on 2.0:

Yeah, he's right, Sony has stated that it will void your warranty. Permanently.

If I were you, I would NOT want to risk that just for, what, a web browser and WMV playback? blink.gif

So beeeeeware! biggrin.gif

on-topic: yes snow is cool. sigh.gif

I don't think Japanese 2.0 will work on US PSP systems. Doesn't FAQ state that as well somewhere?

It works with mine.

And I don't think they'll be able to easily tell if you have the Japanese 2.0 on your system. It's not like there's a red flag that pops out of the PSP if you have Japanese firmware on it.

I'm sure it is going to be just an effect of falling snow, similar to how rain is done.

This looks to me more like a problem with contrast on that image than snow. Though, there are a few spots that could be tracks.

That's what I orginially thought. confused.gif

If there is snow, all the more power to LCS.

If there isn't, I won't be disappointed. Skiing isn't in my top 10 list of things I want to do on GTA.
