This is really annoying, whenever I delete or overwrite my gta_sa.set file and then play san andreas the game just keeps running in 800x600 (reverting back to my previous settings) when the set file is supposed to be a 640x480. I've tried two differant 640x480 files and the same thing happens on both.

I have the same problem. On my GeForce2 MX 32MB I can't access the advanced settings. I used one of the .set files, that changed my level detail and other settings, but the resolution remains 800×600. I would like to try higher resolution (I have a 17" LCD and 800×600 doesn't look really good).
Isn't it possible, that the resolution settings are stored in another file?

default is NOT 640x,

to access a 640x480 screen you must right click the icon for the exe or the gta shortcut tot he exe on the desktop and set it to run in that resolution from the properties menu.

Remember this will most likely not have an effect unless you delete that file again. peace.

srry about the double, I'm tired and did not want to run ack and forth re-quoting and editing.

all options to highest except for no aa (i have it set to max in my vc settings so does it matter)

Do you mean the advance option editor? My real problem is getting it to run in 1280x720, not any of the options. How do I get it to run in 1280x720?

I am getting a crash but not on this menu, but instead when I try to adjust mouse settings. I really really hate inverted mouse so if anyone could provide me with a similar file ( or one of the already available files which you know already has inverted mouse off ) at anything below 1280 ( monitor cant go beyond that ) id really appreciate it. ( Other settings its ok I can change those I only crash on mouse settings )

Not sure if anyone realises, but it's stupid and/or dangerous to share SET files. Best just create your own settings on your own PC.

This thread can be laughed at. Not only using [.set] files from totally different computers make the game more likely to crash and a whole lot of graphical problems, but all associated "gta_sa.set" file in-game problems have something to do with people not updating their graphics/monitor drivers. If one wants a fresh [.set] file, one can just delete it. If one wants an edited [.set] file, one can just reconfigure the default settings of the file by themselves.

Anyway, here's mine. It's called the Maximum Settings AA-AF & Default Controls *1280x1024* 32-bit save file - only thing that "Invert Mouse Vertically is set to OFF". This is from the ATi Catalyst drivers.

They're your saved settings for the game. Located in My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\, they're edited every time you edit SA's settings via the options menu.

However, sharing them is dangerous. They contain information about the system configuration on which they were created in addition to the custom settings. Which is why some of those shared in this topic have stopped an unsuspecting user's game from functioning correctly, or at the least, have proven to have been of zero use.

please tell me where the options menu is. i cant even get it to start..it says "cannot find 800x600x32 video mode"...how can i edit my own gta_sa.set file..i checked in san andreas user files, its not there...thanks
