Hi Lolita,

>>8. hit gta_sa.exe and it wont eve'n start

The game seems to remember the old gfx setup...
Here is what I did:
Rename the folder "c:\documents and setting\YOURNAME\own files\GTA San Andreas User Files" (simple append an underscare at the folder name)
The actual name of this path may be wrong, I have german XP and don't remember the correct english path.

After you have renamed the folder start the game. The game will recognize that the settings are missing and will recreated the folder and suitable settings for your new gfx drivers ;-)
Now quit the game.

All you have to do now is copy back your saved games.
I copied the whole renamed folder conted EXCEPT the "gta_sa.set" back into the original location.

Hope this helps.

IMHO the latest updated version for Windows 9x (98/98SE/ME) is Catalyst 4.3. Try latest version of Catalyst for win9x.

added:

Or update your old operating system to newer windows2000 or winXP.

Same problem here (with a Radeon 8500). I fixed it setting at low the detail level, it doesn't look great, but at least there is no more "invisible people"... sad.gif

I hope they make a patch soon, it doesn't work fine with ATI cards/drivers, I read a lot of people complaining about that...

by downgrading from Ati catalyst 5.6 to 4.9, and renaming the user folders, it works!
no more lockups, and no more massive heat waves.. Cheers!

hi, im still having problems. my problem is alittle different though. my game crashes to the desktop when i click "New Game". i have followed "stnger" way of doing it, with the 4.9 version and i deleted that gta_sa.set, but it still crashes after i click New Game. i then get the infamous error that asks if you want to send the error report to microsoft.

in the settings on the game, no matter what i do NOTHING in the game works. if you could PLEASE help that would be faboulus.

Here are my specs:
120 GB HDD
AMD Athlon XP 2800 (2.08)
512 MB Ram
ATI Radeon 9200 (128 MB)

thanks again.

I also got this problem which i think is ati related, the card seems to always crash, the game is fine but the game alt-tabs out and I get this message saying your ati device has crashed bla bla and gives me the option of reporting the error to ati or not, i usually always report it then just open up the game, its a really weird problem, which also happened with vice city but no other game that ive got. I have latest drivers (5.6)
