I've been scouring the pages of used car mags in Taiwan cuz I'm thinking about getting myself an E38 (ya know, just so I'll fit in here tounge2.gif) and I've found a couple which are nice and I'm planning to go take a gander when I've the time. I'm also thinking about picking up a Toyota GT86 (in black too) but the waiting list is months long which is a bit of a downer. I'm going to take a look at and test drive my dad's friends Maybach 57. He wants to trade it for an apartment but in all honesty it's not worth it at all. If I were to ever accept that trade I'll be taking that Maybach, a Lambo and a couple Porsches off of him before I'll even start to think about trading an apartment for cars. Thankfully he has an extensive car collection so I'll be like a kid in a f*ckin' candy shop tomorrow.

thats because i live there and i put those there for reference, my brother took the pic. i only needed the car for important stuff i need to do with it like getting groceries, going to work and moving stuff in the back seat. for now im not driving it because of the brakes.

If you really use the car for only that, then man you got yourself a wrong car. I mean, if i had an EVO i would actually drive it like it's meant to be driven. Not carry stuff like i's a van. Sorry but thats just how i see it biggrin.gif

Agreed. The Evo must be sad that it's not being used to close to its full potential. Go track it icon14.gif

If you get an E38, either get a short wheelbase 740i M sport (what I would call one of the best looking cars of the 90's and they drive in a way no 2 ton+ car should drive) or a long wheelbase 750il (again, preferably with the sport package but it's not too much of a requirment for the V12). They just ooze cool. One of my favorite big cars.

I really wish you could get a short wheelbase in M sport guise with a V12 with the 6 speed from the 850. Would be my perfect E38.

Get a black one, and make a "BLACK BANDIT"

I think the one in the film looks cool.

Personally I want to get an M3 after I'm done with college and got a decent job, and then make her into a BLACK BANDIT tounge.gif

Come to think of it, I seem to remember having a silver E38 somewhere in the garage. I will dig it up when I return to China. Here in TW I just found a Volvo 950 and when I took it out for a drive last night, the tank was empty but the driver should've filled it up by now.

Just to clarify, the Volvo isn't mine. The Volvo is a staff car.

$3000 for that? Better be low miles or be from a dealer with some sort of warranty.

Judging from the hood vents, bumpers, grill, and wheels, that's a 5.9. They're fairly rare. Around 14k made. And decently fast.

Just saying, for 3 grand, you got a Jeep.

For under 3 grand, I got a Suburban, lifted it, bought new wheels and 35" all terrain tires, a new bumper, new grill, new battery, new starter, added front and rear running lights, swapped my compass mirror for a 2002 dual display comp/temp mirror, swapped in an Escalade interior, and had the front windows and windshield professionally tinted.

You could have found a much better deal.

I don't think it's that bad of a deal for a 5.9. I've seen people wanting nearly that much for dime a dozen 5.2's and 4.0's.

QUOTE (wiki)
The 5.9 L Limited ZJ (1998)

The 5.9 Limited was a Jeep Grand Cherokee produced only for the 1998 model year, having more luxury and performance than that of the regular Limited. Chrysler manufactured nearly a quarter million Grand Cherokees in 1998. Of those, fewer than fifteen thousand were 5.9s. It housed a Magnum 5.9 L V8 engine with an output of 245 hp (183 kW) and 345 lb·ft (468 N·m) of torque, going from zero to 60 mph (100 km/h)in only 7.3 seconds (Motor Trend measured this at a slightly faster 6.8 seconds), making it the quickest SUV available that year. The performance of the 1998 5.9 L V8 has been surpassed by Jeep only with the introduction of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, which housed a 6.1 L Hemi Engine. The 5.9 Jeep Grand Cherokee was named the 1998 four-wheel drive vehicle of the year by Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine.

The 5.9 Limited was available only in Deep Slate, Stone White, and Bright Platinum.

Other features separated the 5.9 from the standard Limited model including:

A Deep Slate 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 L (Note hood louvers and mesh grille inserts)
Functioning heat-extracting hood louvers
Revised grill with mesh grille inserts
Five-spoke alloy Ultrastar wheels
Black-wall tires
An improved premium 180 watt, 10 speaker Infinity stereo system
A rear speaker bar for additional Infinity speakers
Calf-grain, soft leather seats and trim
Leather door inserts
Leather shift handle, e-brake and transfer case handle
Enhanced faux wood trim throughout, additionally around the transmission shift handle base
A full-leather spare tire cover with multiple pockets
A center leather armrest in the rear seat
A lower-profile roof rack that eliminated squeaking problems found on the base 5.2 L limited
Molded rocker panels
140 MPH speedometer
The Grand Cherokee 5.9 further included additional performance-enhancing features including:
A stronger 46RE transmission than the 5.2
Quadratrac heavy duty NV249 transfer case
Standard trac-lock rear differential
An electric fan
A high-output 150A alternator
Lower restriction exhaust and chrome plated exhaust tip

You're still comparing it in price to a base 350 LD 4x4 3/4 ton Suburban that you threw a body lift and used A/T's on for less than the price of the rare jeep.

Let's do a more apples to apples comparison and look at rarer top of the line types of things. Could you have bought a 4x4 454 or 6.5 Suburban with the 8800 gvwr package for less than that price?

Asking price on my burb was $2500, before I bought it I had been eyeing a 93 454 k2500 for $2750, then a clean as f*ck fully loaded black 98 454 for the same price. 220k miles and 160k miles respectively if I remember correctly.

Mine's not base trim, it's an SLT. The only "luxury" option it lacked was heated seats, which it now has.

You still have a light duty 3/4 ton (what I call a glorified half ton with 8 lug hubs) with a 350. There are better suburbans. Like the 454 models you could have had (I know they at least wouldn't have had the sh*tty C-clip 9.5 rear end). There aren't better ZJ's.

Your $1800 Burb isn't a big block/diesel, heavy duty, top of the line Suburban truck-boat-truck.

My $200 E28 isn't an M5.

Mr. Mister's $3k 5.9 Limited on the other hand, is the top dog sport SUV of the 90's.

More like glorified 8 lug heavy duty 1/2 ton with a 4L80E? Not that it really matters because for just a few hundred dollars more I could have had a big bock. Hell, had I bought at the right time I could have a had a 454 and full floater just for the money I've put into running lights and tinted windows. So for under $3k it's not too hard to find a big block 4x4 Burb and have money left over.

It being the best Jeep for that year doesn't make it better than anything else on the market. Add to that Chrysler's infamous build quality, and it just doesn't sound like a good deal to me. If you're a "Jeep guy" then maybe it is, but keep in mind most asking prices are going to include a Jeep tax. And I don't support paying any tax based on the retardation of a fan base. But that's just me.

If it were a 5.2, I'd consider a good deal to be something like $1400 or less. (Not including Jeeptax of course) And I wouldn't consider the LE package to more than double the value. $2k would be a reasonable deal to me for a stock 5.9l.

From what I've seen the "jeep tax" usually applies to Jeepy jeeps (CJ's, Wranglers, MB's, Commandos, M38's, etc). ZJ's aren't really all the desirable as far as mark-up goes.

Still according to KBB, the Jeep blue books around 4k (good condition with 124k miles) in that condition and the burb blue booked around $2800 (good condition with 176,000 miles). If you both got it for a grand less than it's worth to an insurance company, it seems like you got about the same deal to me.
