I'll be honest, if I was rich, I wouldn't buy a supercar without knowing about it. I've no idea what the Lamborghini Gallardo is like for example, and therefore if I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't buy it today.
An Aston Martin Rapide on the other hand....

I can't say I agree with that. The best way to learn is hands on experience.

Yeah, if you've only ever driven an Accord or something, hop in an F430 and immediately take it into traffic or something.

You'll learn.

You better learn.

Obviously you'll only want to do what you're comfortable doing. But if you've only driven an accord, then you shouldn't refuse to ever buy anything faster. You'll never be able to drive it unless you start learning.

Babysteps would probably be the direction to go in that sense. The whole Accord to F430 jumpstart thing might work ok if you get familiar with it on a track first.

Who said that?

I think he meant that he would not buy one until he knew that he was capable of driving it, which too many people don't do.
And of course that often leads to week-old Murcielagos sitting in lots with their undersides ripped to shreds and wheels missing or pointing all the wrong directions.

@Lurch, that's what I mean, I wouldn't recommend just pulling it right off the lot.

Well it really depends on how you treat it. Say the fastest thing you've driven is an Accord, you'd most likely be fine assuming you're just driving along with traffic. Where as if you drive it off the lot and floor it to the next intersection, you're going to have some problems. I'd go ahead and buy the car, just taking babysteps with the way I drive it.

1998 Ford Mondeo GLX 2.0 16v, it's had two previous owners, its done 120000mi and it drives perfectly, it's an automatic unfortunately but i got the car for practically nothing so can't really complain, besides just f*cking look at my old car haha

Front tyres bald or what?!

*produces EFPN book*

I'm just messing, I'm sure there's 1.6mm of tread depth there tounge.gif My dad had one of these cars when I was about 11/12 brand new, loved it as a nipper biggrin.gif

I'm too scared to spin the front tires, petrols gone up again! I've already been pulled over three times since i've got this car, two drug searches and one cause i forgot to put my lights on pulling out of a garage forecourt, the officer who pulled me at the garage was a genuine bloke and let me go on my way, the other officer were all absolute bellends so i asked for stop forms, the first time they had ran out and told me to report to the station if i wanted one and the other gave me one and circled the drugs icon on it. I'm going to keep all the ones i get given and make a collage of them that i will keep in my car and show to the next officers who pull me over, i hope they appreciate the gesture.

One thing that's impressive is you started out with a car that was one of the cheaper, slower cars of its time (Mirage was more or less the Accent of the Mitsu world in our market) and now you've got one of the quickest, best handling cars on this board (probably more or less in the same league as TLC's 370Z. Outcast's 200 mph Bentley still has everyone beat in sheer speed). Pretty impressive just comparing the before and after.

@yngwierocks, would have sounded a bit better if you weren't short shifting. Still pretty nice though. The Challenger is probably the only classic muscle revival that I'd consider purchasing if I had the chance.

@BCspeed, I can't wait till you're done with that. It's been so long since you started it, it's gonna be awesome to see the finished product.

I almost feel like that's an unfair comparison. Putting money up against passion, patience, a lot of hard work. I'm much more impressed with the Mirage Evo.

It's way more impressive for sure, just like a transformer should be.

Built not bought baby.

The Bentley is still a sweet car though, of course.

I'm sure a lot more passion, patience and hard work went into the Bentley. Just not my own. tounge2.gif

In all seriousness though, I do agree as well. To take something old and worn and to transform it slowly into a better machine, blood and tears along the way. That stirs something within the human soul. To be honest, I've followed a manufacturer-knows-best mentality. Anything worth having in your car should be available as an option, no more no less. If I'm going to be spending £80,000+ on a car, I don't want to have to change anything on it or tweak the system. It should be the way the client wants it when it leaves the dealership.

Well there's probably quite a few Viper, higher-end Vette, Porsche, and NSX owners that feel differently. But only because a lot of the parts they want aren't can't really be ticked on the original spec sheet. By that I mean, various OEM trick racing parts.

I was referring to cars in general, of course there are exceptions. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear enough. Of course if you're purchasing a car based on performance or to fulfil a certain task (eg. track days) then its certain you're going to be putting in all sorts of stuff not on the manufacturer options list.

Yeah, I get you. Like a car like a Rolls or a Bentley, I certainly expect perfection of from the showroom floor.

Hmm, now that to me sounds like the previous owner was a bit dodgy and some PNC markers have been added against the VRN, so each time you go past a traffic car it pings the ANPR - actually talk to somebody at your local nick about this!
