It's not worth paying to change anything when I can just sell it and buy something else lol, which I'll probably do some time this year. Because the previous owner paid money to do these modifications!

I was kind of wondering why you and your dad both had cars each worth several times more than the homes around them.

I know a dude who lives in a 60's mobile home with a GT3.

His garage is like twice as big as his home and worth a few times as much.

Of course he is kinda nuts, eats a lot of Ramen too.

That's how I would live. Don't really care how my house looks so long as it has the bare essentials. The cars on the other hand, would definitely be where it's at.

You can always tell a true gearhead from a poser. A true gearhead relinquishes the investment of any old house for that of a rare automobile.

I wouldn't choose to have a great collection of cars over a nice house but I wouldn't call myself a poser. I don't pretend to have a knowledge of what goes on inside the car or how to repair it if its gone wrong but I do love driving and I do have an interest in cars and I think that's all that matters.

There is a difference between having an interest in cars and being a gearhead.

But you're loaded, so the topic really doesn't pertain to you, no offense or anything, it's just a huuuuuge difference.

I'm sorry, but what does that have to do with anything? It's neither here nor there.

Also, what is a huge difference? I don't understand why you say the topic doesn't pertain to me. As far as I can see, it does as it's all just a hypothetical scenario.

In a hypothetical sense, it really isn't all that relevant. But at the same time, I don't think an upper class guy like yourself could go down to the bare essentials the way someone skirting on the edge of poverty like me or murdoch could. Might be too much of a step coming from your way of life. I guess it's like this: You've already tasted some incredible cheese and are addicted to it whereas us common peons just look at it like it's some overpriced cheese and don't give it a second glance. We just care about nice cars and the rest of the glitz and glam doesn't appeal to us as much.

I'm also not saying that everyone who likes cars needs to be a "gearhead", that's just differences in tastes.

It is a big difference the way we see things because we are very different people with vastly different lives, so while it is a hypothetical situation, we will both view it very differently.
Also, I didn't really mean that it "doesn't pertain to you", I used the wrong wording, I was basically referring to how it can be harder to understand anothers reasoning when we see the same thing in such a different way.

You have to remember that you grew up being driven around in cars that are worth more than my house, so we're always going to have differences in opinion, and we will always struggle to understand certain aspects of each others lives.

Again, I don't mean any of this negatively, and I wouldn't really call you a poser, but I would if you had a bunch of supercars and didn't know jack sh*t about them or how to drive them.
You're not trying to be something you're not, and I've no problem with that.

I appreciate you taking the effort to help me understand your point of view, the wording in your original post did throw me off a bit which led to a bit of a misunderstanding for which I apologise. I do have one question though, when you say that if one were to own a bunch of supercars and didn't know sh*t about them, to what extent does one have to know about the cars for it to qualify as "knowing"? I mean of course the engine, how many horses, torque and all that spec sheet data but what else would one have to know?

Just basic car sh*t, which you would be amazed at how many owners of really high-end cars don't know.

Stuff like how to change a tire (even if you don't need to), how to correctly read and understand all gauges, and basic driving technique, because even if you never take your Lamborghini above 100mph, you (and those around you) will fare a lot better if you can keep that thing on the road.

It's also good to be humble and know your skill level, so you know which cars you can handle and which ones will escort you to a fiery death.

I'll be honest, if I was rich, I wouldn't buy a supercar without knowing about it. I've no idea what the Lamborghini Gallardo is like for example, and therefore if I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't buy it today.
An Aston Martin Rapide on the other hand....
