I had a question: is there any mod that changes the three maps to match GTA3 loosely? First level would be Portland, then Staunton Island as the second Level, and Shoreside Vale as the last. But there would be problems: not all of the island would match exactly, and cars would have to be swapped, such as Garbage Truck spawns at Level 1, and there's some cars that would change.

I hope somebody does a loosely based GTA3 map, and its brand-new missions in GTA2. Since map modding is easier to do than in Renderware GTAs, it's worth a shot. Anyone interested for my dream come true, feel free to volunteer.

It probably hasn't been done yet, but it's very likely been considered...

There is not enough space in the GTA1/2 environments to do this. The islands in GTA3 span a good couple of kilometers but the GTA1/2 environments are not much over one kilometer square. You could create a basic likeness to them but you would have to miss out a lot of buildings. The other thing is that GTA3 has a lot of big height changes. In the GTA1/2 environment you have aboout 25 meters of height, so you would have to flatten out the landscape a lot and you could not have buildings anywhere near as tall as the skyscrapers in GTA3.

The other thing is that vehicles in GTA1/2 can only drive North, East, South or West and the roads can only go on these directions or exactly North-east, South-east, South-west and North-west. This means that the road network would have be changed a lot. The tunnels would be very difficult to drive in and the subway would be almost impossible to use.

So, you could make some of it but most of the important stuff would be impossible.

The subway would be useless, because the three islands are separate levels, and a map similar to GTA: Advance's would work, and the missions are not really GTA3 based, hence it's loosely based on the islands. Some problems may be from the geography of Liberty, but the Porter Tunnel would be rendered out,

Here's how it would go for the GTA3 loosely based conversion to GTA2: Downtown Level > Portland; Residential Map > Staunton Island; and the Industrial Area > Shoreside Vale. And it takes place in the future, around the same time as GTA2.

Why I brought this topic up? Since I played GTA2, I always wished there would be a map/mission mod that brought GTA3's Liberty City to a top-down game, and the dream wasn't fulfilled in GTA:Advance.
