Nice work there Gar. Definatly add COL_IO. Seems the community isn't using that one so much... all these people who don't have max still using steve's col maker although, looking at the list I see a blast from the past: Homer's Col maker...

BTW, now that I actually clikc the Homer's Col Maker link, I see it goes to codename GTA, and their download is actually Steve's Col Maker

Icey's MultiEdit Site - always try to link to the site of the actual author rather than tool-leeching "community" sites.

GTA Tools.com - Delfi's site has a proper domain now. I think it is hosted by GTAnet now, so the old URLs are pointing at redirect pages. Many of tools you've got listed there are by Delfi but are have "unknown" author.

These sorts of directories are only worth doing when the person compiling them has a really in-depth knowledge of the things they are adding, or is being supplied information by people who have that sort of knowledge. There are lots of duplicate tools on there and outdated versions. All you need is one link to the author's site for each tool, since many modders change their sites without considering the consequences of link rot.


I am running a development thread for CFG Studio which will be a fully-featured "handling.cfg" editor for GTA3, GTAVC and GTASA. It currently loads, edits and saves data for all those game editions correctly, including the special data sections. It automatically detects the GTA edition the file is for by counting the number of columns in the first data line. If the number of columns is not recognised, it enters "Unknown" mode and uses whatever the maximum number of columns present in the file is. This allows it to edit any text-based file where columns are seperated by whitespace or comma-preceeded whitespace. It supports semi-colon and hash commenting, too.

I am seriously considering turning it into a sort of "GTA Studio" where it will auto-detect and proplery split up all text data files from GTA3, GTAVC and GTASA with named headers and everything. At the moment I am just concentrating on building up the editing capabilities and the interface, so it isn't really ready for the list. Thought it was something you might like to keep an eye on, though.

@dertyjerzian: I will be updating these pages hopefully over the next couple of weeks, I've got some other shtuff to take care of first, but I will be trying to update it as much as possible including those programs which can still be used on San Andreas now as well as Vice City and III. As for pinning, I thought it was ... well whatever.

@Cerbera: Well if had an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of GTA modding for all versions from the first to San Andreas, then my name would probably end in Houser. As it is I'm trying to make it as consise as possible without bogging it down in unessesary information, even knowing the name of a program could get people to look for updates or the the most updated version themselves. And besides most Authors put their websites and/or version information in either the readme file or the Help>About section of the program. So the little update and info Delfi has supplied has been good as I don't know much if anything about GTA/GTA II/GTA London modding.
