Okay guys. I've all but decided yes on this, but thought I'd post/enquire just the same. Why the insanely short deadline, I'm not sure, but...
QUOTE (PM from PCGDJ to Demarest)
Hi, I'm an assistant editor for PC Gamer magazine. We'd like permission to distribute GTA:LC on our CD that will accompany an upcoming issue. Please get back to me asap, since I need an answer by this Thursday. Contact me by email at DJ@PCGamer.com. Thanks.

D.J. Stapleton,
Assistant Editor, PC Gamer.
Until it is released of course, we cannot be certain that this is not a hoax. However, this would be exposure beyond anything I've heard of for ANY GTA mod to date. This level of exposure would of course overrun us. Overrun with interest and/or talent to contribute as well as overrun with the usual "why don't you add this?" questions we've had to field 100 times. What do you guys think?

@GTAuron: That's a good point. Keep in mind that development of this will no doubt be long standing. Putting the word out COULD potentially recruit additional talent to help accelerate our cause. I know Aztlan and madman have both spread the word on other forums as well.

I laos think that this COULD be a good idea, the forum would have to have a few more-led bys and things but people are always willing.

A very direct appraoch for rules in the forum should be made, but I think it might be a good idea, although it could cause alot of trouble around the forum like you said. Hopefull this is not a hoax and its all good. smile.gif

It would make life much easier for the 56k users who contribute or follow the mod. wink.gif

That's news beyond our wildest dreams... and I'm hoping it's not a hoax. If it turns out to be true we should really let them have a set of files as up to date as possible, after all there have been a few updates since the release, several important bugs have been squashed in that short space of time.

This can only be seen as being a good thing, after all we're putting this mod together for people to play... this is going to make sure everyone get's to do just that. smile.gif

Yes. There were also some things I noticed that I was not happy with. For example, being that we've done things such as solidify the stadium, ghost town, and kept the spawner in just for the initial release, I don't think the "Columbians" should hate you just this once. Would make the fun factor that much more prevalant. I also thought the cut scene in which Fido takes The Crook could've been animated better considering that holding a phone to his ear is feature in VC just as it was in GTA3.

Go for it, but make sure they know its a beta. The sheer audience you'll get will be amazing, and even after the novelty value wears off, you'll still get bragging rights and the like.

Yeah, what Opius said. Just make it very clear it's a beta, make the links to here obvious, and make it as easy as possible for people to use.
If it's popular enough, it wouldn't matter that it is a beta, because the magazine might want to use every release on their CD.

Wow, thats great news!

Like killer said, I think you should just get the most up to date release that you can and send it, make sure they know its still a beta.

I mean this is an opportuntiy you shouldn't ignore. If you blow them off they might not ask you again once the mod is officialy finished.

The folks at PCGamer would surely be aware of the legal issues surrounding a mod of this nature, and would know that they'd be slapped with a lawsuit if they tried to directly profit from its distribution.

I agree (send them best version, make sure they know it's still in development).

I doubt it's a hoax (unless it came from a hotmail email or something). I help out with a small online rpg in development and PC Gamer contacted us about a year ago and gave us a small article (with screenshot) in one of their issues. It reeled in a massive ammount of newcomers. They're also offering an article for another small game created by a friend of mine. They seem to be taking chances on free, fan-made games and mods and that's just plain awsome.

Smither's has a point. What does Rockstar think of this? I think I read about the legality of the mod a while back, but all I can remember is that they don't allow anyone to distribute modified executables.
I know most people that own VC or 3 own the other as well, but couldn't they claim that this mod could reduce the sales of GTA3 for PC? (If everything gets finished, missions and all, to the point of where you could play a near replica of GTA3 using VC.) If there's already a topic over this, please point me to it.

It gets discussed all the time. Our generic stance is that we do not have the manpower to police HOW our mod is used.

PCGDJ has been confirmed as having an @pcgamer.com email address. This is most likely a legitimate request.

If this happens, we'd probably want to write a good FAQ and stick it on the top. Also, a couple more moderators might be necessary.

Another thing, this kind of exposure might overload the message boards. You may want to see if Tank's okay with this.

Well this is an amazing opportunity to increase the popularity of the GTA:LC mod, but it could, as CraigKostelecky said, increase the amount of incoming traffic on GTAForums, which could cause a hell of an overload.
