so i bought a fresh copy of gta iv, installed it, and work beautifully .... and THEN..... all hell broke loose, after i shut down my computer, then play it the next day, it LAGS, horribly.

here are my specs :
OS : Win7
Processor : AMD phenom II N830 triple core ~ 2.1ghz
RAM : 3gb (2.75 usable)
Video memory : 1403 mb
help me please

EDIT : its solved! i have to run disk clean up everytime i start up my laptop

Try using memrestrict. Do you have any mods installed? If memrestrict doesn't work, try deleting your game settings. Only last suggestion would be to install Patch 1.0.4.0.

aaargh... this is driving me crazy, sometimes it lags , sometimes it dont, i dont get it, thank you for your help anyway



oh, and i have some mods installed. ive tried to remove it, it doesnt lag now, i'll be back tomorrow and see how it goes

I suggest you remove all mods and do a fresh install. Mods are known to mess up the game, so such a thing is quite expectable.

vanilla game is lagguy . some say it's because of a poor optimization , personnally i think it's more likely caused by the high level of details . i played a lot flight sims and these lags are typical of ultra-detailled scenes . maybe you should have a look at this hope it helps

okay so i 've reinstalled it, doesnt lag anymore, (i hope this is permanent) but now can't install patch 1.0.7.0
it said "failed to install blabla...."

Try composing yourself, this manner of expression doesn't add anything to the discussion. If you want to go on a bender over R*, email or phone them.

If you need help over some issue, omit the "blah blah" and post the actual error. Patch may refuse to install if you have an AV active protection that may lock the registry.

Do you have an AV program running in the background? If yes, disable it temporarily. Alternatively, you can use this archive made by me to update the game manually http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?on51nqo8i6xxanx
You need to place it in game installation directory and run it there. It will extract new files and overwrite old ones.
