Went to a Tool concert last night.
Danny Carey was the craziest motherf*cker I've ever seen on the drums.
His solo at the end of Aenima was absolutely amazing, wish the gig was twice as long thanks to the joy of watching him play.

And yeah, the broken double bass pedal sucks pretty hard.
My mom doesn't allow me to buy anything new anymore until I'm 19 (excluding drum heads)
Good thing is: I found out that the standard single pedal that came with the Pearl kit is actually pretty good in my opinion

Ahh, gotcha.

I'm getting a Zildjian splash cymbal, and an "un-branded" cymbal boom stand. It's about $30.00 altogether. Pretty cheap, from what I've seen.

I think most drummers are taught to use matched grip not only because it's a more natural way to play, but because it does have its advantages over traditional. The guy I took lessons from never really taught me traditional grip (or even mentioned it, really) until I wanted to learn it. It can be very frustrating at first, but once you get the motions and feel of it, you might actually prefer it. Maybe it's just that I'm a fan of asymmetry.

So all of the china cymbals I want are over $250. That's like, $200 that I don't have. Working part-time sucks.

Me too, he's by far one of the greatest drummers. There's still hope though, his Jason Bonham did an amazing performance of Stairway to Heaven with Ann Wilson and plenty others.
