| QUOTE (CaptRobau @ Saturday, May 26 2012, 13:23) | ....Thus a San Diego analog (perhaps this Los Puerta) makes sense. It would break up the wilderness to the south of Los Santos. To the west would be ocean (perhaps with some islands in it, to emulate the Channel Islands)....We saw a desert environment with palm trees in the trailer, which could point to Palm Springs..... I think the most likely candidate would be San Bernardino. It's big, it has a look that sets it apart from Los Angeles and San Diego.... We might have even seen San Bernardino's name in the trailer. Del Perro (mentioned on an interstate sign) means The Dog in Spanish. The English of San Bernadino is Saint Bernard, which is a breed of dog..... | Exactly . Without it R* just might as well have picked Miami as that city doesn't have much around it but the everglades/swamp and 2 unheard of counties to the north. I'm sure R* wanted a challenge and San Diego would present such challenged if approached. Logically, as you stated in your post, including the Channel Islands would be a great way to instill that 'island' feel in GTA at the same time add to the already spacious playground. Also, for those who are unaware, one of San Diego's islands is infact used as military base IRL (another reason as to why im leaning toward the inclusion of SD HYDRA FTW!)). I wanted to thank you for bringing up Palm Springs as I completely overlooked over this. Palm Springs could serve as a "poor-man's" LV with it's 'desert living' vibe or maybe as a desert town in the Mojave, which i think will be included (as the Tehapachi Wind Farm seems to be present, you know, the turbines from the trailer). As for Del Perro, you know, based off name alone it would only make sense that it's maybe a hint towards San Bernardino. But if you ask me (which you probably didn't ), Del Perro is probably a neighborhood within Los Santos kind of like how 'Little Seoul" is also. | QUOTE (CaptnRobau) | ....I sincerely doubt that SD will make the cut. The first thing that provokes this nagging suspicion that LS will be the only city is R*'s press release,.... Of course, there is the "re-imagined Southern California" tidbit. Personally, I take the .... statements to mean V will feature the Greater Los Angeles region (L.A., Orange, and Ventura Counties plus the Inland Empire) with some liberties (e.g., those impressive mountains to the north).....Perhaps there will be desert towns (Palm Springs), farming towns (Bakersfield), mountain towns (Big Bear), and beach towns (Santa Barbara).... SD would be a pleasure....but it really is just a whole can of worms that I don't think R* wants to open. SD's vibe is not significantly different from L.A. ....I just find it hard to believe we'd have SD and no Mexico... it would be like LC without Alderney.... |
I agree, but you have to look at the perspective in terms of expansion (GTA's universe, not DLC) as SD is the SECOND largest city in California all together let alone SoCal, so why not include it. Yea maybe be the vibe of two cities are quite similar, but they're not exactly the same. Take all 4 boroughs of LC for example, though Broker and Dukes are similar in looks, their respective atmospheres are quite unique and distinctive. Same goes for Bohan and Algonquin without mention. I'm pretty sure R* would work out the kinks in this department by probably adding areas of Mexican-esque architecture and influenece within certain neighborhoods (this would help with that 'SD with no Mexico' feeling). Plus I think R* should take advantage as much as they can with this "Southern SA" hoopla. So when it's time for a NoCal/SA rendition: San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, making room for LV to be set in it's own state (hey, the city of San Andreas got turned into a state and re-named San Fierro, why not state borders changing?).

We seem to forget R* has been including new cities and it's become a sort of a trend (for a lack of a better term) in recent GTA's. For example, with both San Andreas and IV combined, we were introduced to 3 brand-new cities (Los Santos, Las Vent+uars and Alderney City) and 2 new states (San Andreas itself and Alderney). Before that, there were only 3 cities (in existence)total: Liberty City, Vice City, San Andreas (which is what San Fierro used to be before GTA:SA). Thats it 3 cities. This couldv'e made the series old and stale quickly if not dealt with in time. |
Alderney(aka new jersey) was not brand new. It just had a different name previously. GTA 1 had it's version of New Jersey with places like Guernsey City(Jersey City), Hackenslash(Hackensack) and Fort Law(Fort Lee). To say that "Alderney City" was some new city in GTA IV is grasping at straws. This post has been edited by negrodamus on Monday, May 28 2012, 06:32
