If you see someone lagging, but the rest of the players are ok - It's just him the one who has lag.

If you see everyone else lagging - then you can tell you're the one who has lag.

I think EL_FUGA said it well enough. Also, check your internet speed. I have cable internet with a speed of of 30Mbps, so I don't lag. The ones who lag the most are KSA, they have speeds of between 1 and 4 Mbps, which sucks. You're from England, so I'm guessing your speed is pretty good. So it's probably not you.

Thanks, I surmised as much but the other day some guy was giving me a sh*t load of abuse whilst swearing blind that I was lagging. However, he, for me wasn’t lagging at all … which is what lead me to question how I determine who’s lagging.

As for my connection it is 1mb Upload and 11mb Dowload. Should that present me with any problems? I do get disconnected from games about once every 2 or 3 hours meaning I have to start another game.

Everyone has disconnection issues from time to time, including myself. At 11Mbps, you won't be lagging.
That's a good speed, and I would say that the majority of players are slower than that.
Complaining about lag is merely an alternative to accusing you of using a turbo or whatever.

Thanks. Finally, is there such a concept of me phoning up my ISP and asking them to talk me through how I can customise router settings or similar in order to increase my speed/connection? Or is that not something that is possible?

I'm no expert in this area, but it's not a matter of changing router settings.
You should be able to call your ISP and just ask them to increase your speed.
Only they can tell you what speeds you're capable of getting. Cable is faster though.
So, if you don't have cable, perhaps you should upgrade. But like I said, 11Mbps is fine, mate.

I still don't understand how the game predicts what your opponent does in lag.

for example you go to run someone over, you hit them and see it. but in actuality they dodged you and never got hit and then your dead.

I hate the game "lies" but I guess its cuz its such a huge world.

its just annoying cuz there's no limit to the "predictions", could be climbing, flying, losing heli tail, whatever.
