Just because it's run by fans, it's bad? I've been there and their info for all GTA games have been accurate.

Well their info is not official so it may fall towards inaccuracy at times. There's been that guy pushing that the Audi R8 is called "Katana M4", for example.

If I had to guess, my opinion would be the same as a lot of other people's here; they've already explored the IV storyline from 3 different view points. Anything more would simply be 'beating a dead horse'.

Well. San Andreas, Vice City and GTA 3 hat all different Storylines and Years. They werent AddOns like Episodes from Liberty City.

VC for example was 80's and San Andreas 90's. It was the same engine with minor improvements but complete new games..

And then IV came out on next gen with a whole new Gameplay feeling and Engine. So i think we can expect more than just a new City and other Charakters / Location...

i just cant belive that its random if R* increments the number or give the game a city-title...i think we can expect a real GTAGeneration Leap (like 1->2->3->4) even on current gen and same engine. I think they improved the Engine a lot cause they had / have so much time between 4 and 5 ...

Rockstar said, "the 'universes' are the worlds interpreted at different definitions, 2d, 3d and high definition"

There is no evidence of there being more than three universes.  There is no evidence that numbered titles mean anything.

Because V supports 3D tv's?

3D as in "3D polygons". HD as in high-definition TV.

If GTA IV era is in HD, explain Chinatown Wars. That game is 2D top down, set in GTA IV Liberty City.

No characters physically exist in both CW and IV/EFLC, although some are referenced. By Rockstar's definition, "the 'universes' are the worlds interpreted at different definitions", CW and IV/EFLC are different universes, though obviously close parallel universes. Remember that at the off-screen level of writing and radio, there is only one GTA universe. Only the different visual depictions of it as a game, and the things that are physical in that, are separated into different sub-universes.

The key reason for different universes is so characters avoid being redesigned to fit into a different visual style than they originally appeared in. The fact that there is no major stylistic difference in the graphics of GTA IV and V eliminates the need have that barrier.

Chinatown Wars takes place in 2009. GTA IV & The Episodes took place 2008. Of course none of them exist. All of them exist in the same Era or universes. Chinatown Wars has the same map as IV excluding Alderney due to the PSP hardware being too small.

GTA Advance? Characters from GTA III are in that game and it was a 2D, top down game. 8ball, Asuka, and King Courtney?

We in HD era. Point in time, means this.
IV universe not same as HD era. Even though both happen same time.

GTA 1 & 2 are a part of the same era, and may or may not be in the same universe.

GTA III, VC, LCS, VCS, SA, and Advance are in the 3D era. (Even though Advance is top down, and has almost nothing to do with the others.) This is also a new universe, meaning that the events that took place in GTA 1 & 2 never happened in this timeline.

GTA IV, EFLC, Chinatown Wars, V, etc. are in/will be in the HD era. Again, a new universe from the 3D era games. Anything that happened in the 3D games, may not have happened the same way in this new timeline. (Chinatown wars, even though it is pretty much a top down game, is part of the HD era, because it came out in the same segment of time.)

Things like El Burro/Radio Personalities/Brand Names can be found in multiple universes, because they are not people, at least not in the sense that CJ/Tommy/Ken/Roman/etc. were. It's like saying that Los Santos can't be in the new IV universe because it was in the III universe.

Now again, An era is not equal to a universe. An era, is a span of time, while a universe is a location.
I believe the numbers are strictly related to the story. So while V will be in the HD era, and will take place in IV's universe, The stories will not be related all too much. We might see a few characters flow over from IV, but they'll be cameos or easter eggs.

And feel free to refer to this for every other argument you've already posted.

Let's not speak of Advance, the only GTA not made by DMA->Rockstar. There wouldn't have even been a concept of universes back then.

My point is that there is a REASON for universes. The only consistent thread in Rockstar's reasoning is that characters designed for a certain style and level of detail can't exist in a game that's visually and stylistically different. It's not arbitrary. Huang Lee could never appear in GTA V even if GTA IV characters could, because Huang Lee is an actorless, voiceless little sprite whose story is told with comic book panels. It doesn't matter that in theory he lives in the same city as GTA IV characters. He's from a different kind of game. Rockstar says universes instead of eras because it's not based on time, it's based on the format and design of different games.

If anybody doesn't get it yet, I can keep going. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

This is so freakin easy to understand, I don't know how you people still don't get it.

Universe or Canon means the world where the story takes place and the characters that exist within. For instance, GTA1 and GTA III clearly can not be in the same universe because the Liberties aren't the same physical city.

Era means which grouping of consoles the games came out on. 2D being the PS1/N64/GBC time, 3D being the PS2/Xbox/GBA time, and HD being the PS3/360/DS/PSP time. The next GTA era will likely be the PS4/neXtBOX/WiiU/3DS/PSVita.

At this point, we know for a FACT that GTA V will be in the HD-era. However, we have no idea if it will be in the GTA IV canon. However, the new number for the game says it likely is a new Canon. (Combined with the fact that the IV-canon seams to share a San Andreas with the III-canon on the TV.)

Hey

So GTA 1 and 2 wasnt a Generation Leap but 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 has been a hugh leap imo.

Why do you think R* decided to name it "5" already and not GTA: Los Santos or something like that (like Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, Vice City or San Andreas).

I would have expected V for next gen. But i think it has a reason why they gave it the Title GTA 5 - maybe they made so many changes and it deserves a new number...

Do you think we will see a huge improvement to IV and thats why they named it 5?

Another idiot... suicidal.gif

Fascinating.
