I love the a350 it just looks so..slick, i think airbus copied the general shape off the Boeing 787 Dreamliner which is also a personal favourite

BUMP

Nothing can top that last shot, surely?
She sounds exactly like a TIE Fighter.

Flew one of these babies yesterday, went to the mountains then came back. Having used a map as navigation, it made me think how we take GPS for granted.

While on holiday in Kilchoan a few years back (2009), one of these landed just along from my cottage. It caused quite a stir.

user posted image

The year after that, while on holiday in Beadnell (2010), one of these flew directly over the house we were staying in, shaking it doing so.

user posted image

I also had Tornado jets flying over my head at the nearby beach that year.

Sadly, I've no photos of either event.
@Chris CJ Jakobsson: You were lucky to have a camera on you for that.

Here's a video that was shot in my hometown of Life Flight which is our air ambulance survive. The helicopter is the Sikorsky S-76

Had the chance to ride in the CH-149 Cormorant several years ago. The Cormorant is Canada's primary search and rescue helicopter. Was a pretty cool experience.

I don't see a lot of helicopters close up but in the months preceding the London Olympics there were multiple chinook flights over my apartment and Canary Wharf almost daily, and because my apartment is on the 30th floor, I usually have a pretty good view of them.

I've only ever seen one of those things and it was from a distance. The only regular helicopter flights in my area are search and rescue, police search and air ambulance from Glasgow City Heliport and sometimes the odd Sea King. The flights are operated by Eurocopter EC-135s.

The aircraft on the right is the only police helicopter in Scotland.

It's crazy how that could be the only surviving example of its kind. it's an endangered species, we have to find it a mate!

^^^ It's not the only one with only 1 surviving example.
Take the Dornier Do 335 Pfeil, the fastest production piston-engined heavy fighter ever built (474mph). Total number built: 37.

Or the Arado Ar 234 Blitz, the world's first operational jet-powered bomber. Total number built: 210.

These two were lucky.

One notable aircraft with no surviving examples at all was the Blohm & Voss BV 141:

A damned shame that none of these were saved.

There's also what's colloquially know as the "first stealth bomber", even though it's actual radar-reducing capability was effectively non-existent- the Horton HO-229. AFAIK the first jet-powered flying wing design, and the only surviving prototype Nazi German jet aircraft.

Airframe V3, currently undergoing restoration at the Smithsonian.

As for the fastest piston-engined production aircraft, there's an unofficial record of Joe DeBona flying a production-derived, but disarmed and de-armoured P-51C Mustang between LAX and Idlewilde with an average speed of 523mph in 1954 AFAIK.

Also, there's the Supermarine Spiteful, of which about 20 production versions were made. That had a top speed of 494mph.

Plus I think variants of the de Havvilland Hornet could top 480mph.
