What would say for GTA based on 'eastern europe' scenario? breif outlook: territory The action could take place eright after the fall of communism (early 90's). The region was higly destabilised with high corruption, rising poverty and crime rates. The end of communism was also the beginning of new fortunes and oligarchy. Eastern Europe in that times was a mixture of old socialist cars and architecture as well as new, western culture brught mainly by 'new rich class' with no taste, class, whatever. It might be good base for nice scenario for GTA VI or the episode for the new GTA which could take place in Europe. For players in America, Western Europe it might be really exciting to get more familiar with easter european reality at that time and became mafia member, businessman whatever... cities Moscow - capital of so cold 'soviet empire' Crimea East Berlin - gateway to West Berlin Warsaw - the largest illegal 'trade center' on former stadium where you could buy anythinh including granades and kalashnikoves cars (some examples) Russian Czech German (from DDR) Polish The game could have unique climate with east european songs, radio station, specific culture etc.

Because it would be f*cking depressing, not something a lot of people would be able to associate whit, like Californian, New York or Maim, and most important. Lack of sours materiel, there is not a lot of movies about crime and culture from that place and era, it lacks of what cities like New York and Los Angeles are rich of, pop culture references, yes I could name a few like, Good Bye Lenin! or Das Leben der Anderen , but it’s not enough to spin an entirely game off.

| QUOTE | | I love all these locations but the only problem is, is the lanuage, subtitles all the way through woudn't be to legit. |
The same problem will emerge with any location outside so-called english spekaing zone (UK, USA, Canada, Australia etc.) but is it really a problem? In the movies it is common that language used is english even if the country were action takes place is Russia, China, France. English will be ok, but some background stuff like commercials, names of shop, restraunts should be in russian. | QUOTE | | Because it would be f*cking depressing, not something a lot of people would be able to associate whit, like Californian, New York or Maim |
For people playing gta in Japan, Europe California, NY or Maimi is alos something totaly unfamiliar. | QUOTE | | Lack of sours materiel, there is not a lot of movies about crime and culture from that place and era, it lacks of what cities like New York and Los Angeles are rich of, pop culture references, yes I could name a few like, Good Bye Lenin! or Das Leben der Anderen , but it’s not enough to spin an entirely game off. |
There were number of movies but only few of them became famous outside the home country. I thought that this could have the positive effect... by playing you may discover something new.

True, but other western cities like LA and Miami is a lot closer to Tokyo then Mensk, regarding BNP, HDI and I would think, culture. | QUOTE | There were number of movies but only few of them became famous outside the home country. Also true, but if they are not popular, then they don’t count, I could make a list of great Danish drama/action/thrillers some of them pries wining, but it would not change the fact that nobody have heard of them, and Rockstar would properly not make a GTA: Copenhagen, even thou the city’s crime rate is rising, because of an open battle between Bikers and the many second generation Islamic gangs of the city. Despite a good setting, Rockstar and most of the world would not care for a GTA: Copenhagen, The city’s problems and culture is simply unknown outside of Denmark. And Eastern Europe’s has the same problem, culture and conflicts are mostly unknown outside the borders. | QUOTE | The same problem will emerge with any location outside so-called english spekaing zone (UK, USA, Canada, Australia etc.) but is it really a problem?

And for language, it is a big deal. Yes the Russians Arabs and Chinese talks English in crappy Steven Seagal movies, but the standard for a Grand Theft Auto is too high, Rockstar would never make a game with strictly English speaking Japanese. Edit: Why did you have to post such big pictures!!! This post has been edited by maxopower on Sunday, Dec 20 2009, 23:16
