Since the last hype about GTA V, for almost two and more weeks people have been setting up some really ridicilous topics. Some of them were great, they were really discussed and actually worth of something. But lately, people are just making topics that are more spam than something worth of discussion.
So, I suggest that you have an option to approve the topic before it's posted. For start, I would like to see it in GTA 5 section, but if this gets accepted, then you can do whatever you want to.
I am just sick and tired of all the spam that is happening... People are constantly making topics that are already there and the moderators are extremely busy with dealing with them and deleting. So this might help them a little bit.

This is a forum, it's meant to be used to discuss things. Now obviously the completely stupid ideas we usually lock, but what 90% of the people consider "spam" in that forum is not really spam, and just gets left. We keep a pretty good eye on that forum and deal with things accordingly. Having to approve a couple of hundred topics a day would send our workload through the roof, especially considering 99% of the topics would be fine. If you see a spam topic, just report it and we'll deal with it if need be.

That's the drawback when you have a subforum that can literally have over a thousand people browsing it at a given moment. It sucks that it gets spammed, but it's part of the "social contract" of being on GTAForums. Thankfully, there's six area moderators who have kept the place pretty clean, given their somewhat daunting task.

Plus, like Ryan said, approving each topic would add to the workload. I can only imagine there's a good 50+ topics added each day, so to have to manually approve each one, on top of trying to keep the spam to a minimum... yeah, it would be a nightmare.

Also, if someone wants to post a topic and has to wait for approval, they might just go derail another topic that's already posted, bypassing the approval process.

How about users having to have at least 50 posts before they could create a new topic? Is this even possible? The spam and troll threads are popping up in the V section more and more frequently. People are creating accounts just to troll and it's making the V section a cesspool.

Not every new member joins to make stupid topics. This is a discussion board and don't worry about the trouble makers. There is plenty of help to take care of that. icon14.gif

The issue with setting an x-minimum post count in order to post topics in the V forum means that you're going to see an increase in spamming in order to reach that target so that they can make those posts.

So it's probably best just to let them post their topic, even if it is spam, and let the staff deal with it on a case-by-case basis, rather than having to deal with that spam topic plus the x-number of posts that were created via spam in order to be able to make the post in the V forum in the first place.
