After two years, my existing phone contract is up in about a month. I'm looking for an upgrade, but I'm not really sure what to go with. I'm limited to Telus's slection of phones.

I thought about getting an iPhone, but with the iPhone 5 just around the corner, now would be a terrible time to buy a 4s. Also, I have big fingers, so touch screens and I don't really get along that well. Although I guess there's not really much one can do about that since practically every phone nowadays is a touchscreen. So, iPhones aside, that leaves me with an Android device. I don't really know much about them, so I don't really even know where to start looking.

I don't want to play games on my phone or have a farting app or anything. I'm looking for something that's good for normal use such as lots of texting, and the occasional phone call. Also looking for something that is email friendly as I get close to 500 emails a month between school and work. It's not a deal breaker, but I'm looking for something that also has a decent camera in it as I frequently have to use my phone to take pictures of evidence and items I seize while working.

So yeah, I'm having trouble deciding, so if anyone could help me out and give me some suggestions it would be appreciated.

Well i have an S2, one of the reasons i chose it over the Iphone was because the screen is quite a good deal larger than the Iphone screen which is only 3.5" and the S2 is 4.5" and there is The S3 which is larger at 4.8", i don't have any experience with it though.

Or you could try the Galaxy Note, which is similar to the S2 except it has a 5.3" screen which is pretty gigantic and a 1.5Ghz processor i think they both have 8MP cameras.
I would recommend going to a store and having a look before purchase for those to get a gauge on the size.

What sort of budget do you have?
Using them for anything else? Music? Games?

If not you could just go for a cheaper phone even though The selection Telsus has is pretty lame anyway but there is a few HTC's, i would recommend except i have no experience with them.

I know with the iPhone 5 coming out soon, the 4S wouldn't be the best choice, but with regards to the touch screen, it's actually not that bad. It will take some getting used to at first, but eventually, it's a breeze to use. Trust me on that - I guarantee you my fingers are fatter than yours and I can use my touch screen keyboard on my iPhone like a pro.

Assuming you have the cash I'd recommend the Galaxy S III. It's got a nice big screen so that you can easily read text on screen and well as type with less issues as the virtual keyboard is bigger. It also has a 2200mah battery which is fairly large, and I've heard of some people getting some good rundown times on it. The camera in it is also great, at the very least equal to what you'd get in an iPhone 4S. I'm not sure how the stock email client works on the SGS III but worst case scenario there's dozens of email clients you could download from the Play Store.

Of course if you don't want the S III you could always go with the Note which has a humongous screen so big fingers will definitely not be an issue there. It's probably best to find a store that has these on diplay and give each a go for a few minutes, swipe through the menus, try using the virtual keyboard on each and see if it feels good for you to use.

Well it seems HTC is not an option if you are looking for battery life, the SGS3 lasted twice as long under these conditions.

Of course it's important to note the differences between Samsung's screen tech (AMOLED) vs HTC's (Super LCD2 on the One X). On AMOLED each pixel is individually lit, so when something is black the light for those pixels simply turns off, which can save battery power. However it has higher battery drain the other screen techs for whites, making internet browsing or reading books quite likely to drain your battery fast. Conversely the Super LCD2 technology is the opposite, blacks don't really save power, but nor do whites drain more. Considering they did a video test it's likely there was a large amount of blacks present resulting in the S3 having such a significant advantage over the One X. If they did an internet browsing comparison (just leave screen on a webpage and disable screen timeout) then I imagine it would be much closer.
