I'm sure most of you have heard by now of Snoop Dogg's major shift in alias and genre following his rechristening by a Rastafarian priest in Jamaica.

I myself am a little undecided on this. What do you guys think? Do you support his "lifestyle decision"? Or do you somewhat feel this is a publicity stunt? I say if it's truly something that makes him happy, then all the best to him.

He did it on a trip to Jamaica right?
Well aside from publicity which is probably part of it, he probably got high as f*ck and had some strange epiphany.

I think it sounds decent, but i'm not a Reggae fan so I don't know if it sounds like some terrible wannabe novice rubbish or a good recreation of reggae music.

I think its wonderful. I hate all these fools kicking up about it. He`s done his time in Rap and as anyone, should have the right to go to what ever genera he wants.

Well I think it's always morally questionable for an artist to make such a sudden switch between styles and genres. I'm not really feeling the forced jamaican accent, I think that's kinda cheesy, but I support Snoop and his change even if it's really obscure. As long as he stays true to his roots and expresses himself, it's all cool. At least it's less commercial than most of his music these days.

The f*ck did I just listen to? That was absolutely awful...

As for the name, I completely think it's just a publicity stunt. It'll only be a matter of time before we're back to Snoop Dogg.

I think Snoop, having one of the best reputations in Hip-hop history and a huge career, should be allowed to explore another genre, a whole different style to get creative with and try something new. He's done his thing in Rap for over a decade and earned more than just status and bragging rights. It's a suprising decision but I think if he's truly inspired and wants to embrace and become a part of a different culture and genre then go right ahead. Snoop Lion however really doesn't suit him. If I picked up a record by "Snoop Lion" I certainly wouldn't be expecting a Long-beach rapper turned Reggae artist. Honestly I can't see it lasting long, it seems like a decision he made on impulse while chillin' with some people in Jamaica, add the fact he was most likely high as f*ck and it makes perfect sense.

I think it's great that he wants to be apart of the culture, but I don't think it's a wise choice for his career.

Gay gay gay super gay....totally wrong and offensive. This had better be a joke on his part.

The day some marketed rapper decides to exploit a very local thing is so very wrong.

If any of you like this style of music do yourself a favor and give your money to the artists who deserve it...the old DJ(pre dancehall term) guys and the real dancehall guys. Don't listen to this Lion crap - Listen to one of the real ones like Tiger, or Yellowman, Fathead, Eek-a-mouse. Someone who is in it for real.

He's been on a downward spiral since 'Doggystyle'.

Which was released in 1993.

Yikes.

Yeah, this. I am sick of hearing people trying to sing like Jamaicans, it happens so often even with singers from my country, it's getting ridiculous. I'd say this is just a pathetic excuse for someone to listen to reggae.

I remember a bit ago when he stopped smoking reef, that lasted 3 minutes. Snoop Lion won't last long at least until the album sales figures come in.

Only weed have the power to change a Dog into a Lion.

This is just a moment, he'll change it again right after everyone starts criticize.
He was a rapper, worked together with electronic artists, he just did that for money, I don't believe he's really into a new lifestyle

Don't forget, Rap and Reggae are ''sons of the same ghetto', both were created with the same purpose (even tough they went in different ways)

I hear what you are saying and in a way it makes a little bit of sense....still not entirely true. Trenchtown is beyond what we think of ghetto here in the states(birth place of rap). Ghetto reggae has always been way more social and political than rap. Bob Marley(reggae) and The SugarHill Gang(rap) hit the scene at near about the same time. Both styles had vastly different messages.

As a fan of reggae and Jamaican dancehall(me=hardcore since early 80s) I still take great offense to Snoop Dog [essentially] mocking the Jamaican DJ artists. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if he did a bit on stage(as himself) with one of the known dancehall artists, but once you put on a fake accent - all respect is lost.
