I've stopped drinking alcohol for a while because over the past 12 months or so I have developed a bit of a problem with alcohol. It's not even been 2 weeks yet though, but I'm determined to quit for a good 6 months or so. After heavy drinking and recreational drug use over the years my body has finally started to f*ck me over, I can no longer moderate and where I used to be able to drink ridiculous amounts and be fine, I now turn into a dick and do things that I end up regretting/can't remember, I can't moderate my alcohol intake, especially in social situations, once I have one I can't stop myself. Maybe after a long break I will be able to go back to normal, but I am enjoying the money I'm saving by not drinking.

Anyone else ever had an alcohol related problem?

P.S. There's an ice cold bottle of Becks in the fridge that sets off unreal cravings every time I open it, I wish someone would hurry up and drink it!

Definitely happened to me. It is definitely something you will need to deal with one way or another. May I ask how old you are? I'd say this actually happened to me around the age of 20ish. What do you drink?

I'm 20 yeah, 21 in October. I drink anything, when I'm out at gigs or parties or whatever anything goes, I just used to enjoy getting smashed. Last time it happened I went to my mates house with 2 bottles of wine and I said to myself "that's it, no more after this"...then I was in the off license buying another. It's daft. I wouldn't even call them friends, just piss heads who I get drunk with, and it doesen't help that the scene of people I associate with are heavy drinkers too, but most of them can moderate it.

When I'm in the house or having a "quiet one" in the pub (that doesen't exist anymore lol), I like real ale and stuff. And decent lager, not weak sh*te like Fosters and Carling.

Yeah, I have it pretty easy in America.. weak lager is a pretty standard drink and one can moderate much easier with that than with something easily drinkable like vodka etc.

The "tough" complex sure rears its head around where I live.. and it's hard enough to deal with it within myself let alone all of my friends chiming in and buying free shots for me but it's just something you have to consciously deal with while drinking ( as hard as that may be/seem ) just take it slow, have a water in between drinks every now n then perhaps and assess the situation.

Not me, but a friend of mine. Basically would go off the rails whenever he drank, and was unrepentant about it all other times.

I basically just cut him off after a while. If he was going to hurt someone after drinking as much as he did with no remorse or care, it wasn't going to be when he was drinking with me.

Trust me. I love Dogfish, but I have this feeling their pumpkin might be too much pumpkin.

I was going to pick up a case of Magic Hat #9 (because I was feeling rich) and I saw this next to it.

Sorry for the smeared up opaque pint glass - just showing off one of my vintage Atari pints that I just so happen to be using tonight.

Magic Hat IPA on Tour. Very tasty...just as fruity but maybe a slight less on the hoppiness as compared to #9

I think it's time we gave this a bump.

Anyone like pilsners? I had a stein of Dortmunder Union Vier a few weeks ago in my local real ale pub. Even though they have 12 guest ale's on at a time, they also do some nice pilsners, which is nice and refreshing after a load of stout, IPA and bitter. Another one I enjoyed is Veltins. Anyone got any recommendations?

Here's the stein in all it's glory.

If you can find it in a pub, get some Lowenbrau. It's a pretty famous Munich beer that's quite light, refreshing and delicious. I have no idea if it counts as a pilsner, and the only place I've seen it other than bottles in Sainsburys was a pub in Haringey, London. I'd imagine its pretty popular in Germany, though.

It's a Helles pale lager. Similar to a Pilsner but lighter, with more hops and citrus notes. Delicious stuff, though.

I'll keep my eye out for it Captain VXR. I'm going to get a stein of Leffe next time I'm in the pub, that should be heavy! Either that or a stein of Erdinger. I love Erdinger!

Currently drinking Thatcher's Katy cider, it's 7.4% and really quite nice.

Tonight I am drinking my Stella Artois. I put it at the top of my list when it comes to beer...

Other than that, I drink mostly whiskey... But, after having a daughter, had to slow it all down. Now I drink a few beers after work, and everything's great.
