I vehemently disagree with the people suggesting college is harder than high school. I go to college in DC and the university I go to is one of those low acceptance places. The fact of the matter is that at college, you're studying things you like. You're not sitting there doing f*cking useless chem, physics, math etc. questions if you're someone like me who has, since age 13, been solely interested in humanities and hasin had absolutely zero interest in any other topic other than biochemistry/nutrition. To another student like my roommate, he scraped by with low 90s in AP World and AP US (that is low by some standards) but this kid was in multivariable calc in his junior year, and got a 5 on BC calc in 10th grade. That type of kid is not going to be forced to do, to his standards, useless history and government classes. Sure he'll have to take English and write papers, but that's everyone at college really. The point i'm trying to make is, at college it's specialized. Sure it's hard work, but you want to be doing that hard work based on the major you chose. I am a double major in polysci/international relations, I love and I am passionate about both topics. I have no problem with studying like a madman for the exams, spending hours reading textbooks, and writing huge papers. My friend is a physics major, he loves that stuff and even though he busts his ass, he enjoys that topic. Trust me man, get through high school - don't settle for a community college. Pull your grades up and start working hard. I used to be like you but thankfully I corrected it by the second part of 9th grade. I don't know why your mom doesn't believe in extracurriculars; tell her to stop being a f*cking idiot and let you join clubs so that you have a shot at college. Do what you have to do. Remember too that if money is a problem, say you have a 90 GPA at the end of your junior year; instead of going to target colleges that you pay full price for, you could go to schools that generally accept students with an 85 GPA and they will in many cases cut your tuition almost IN HALF.

Pass your classes and have fun. If you pass your classes you are learning, if you are learning you will do fine come SAT time in your later high school career. Good grades, and good SAT scores is pretty much all you'll need. Well... money helps too, since not all schools are affordable by everyone. If you really want to push yourself to get into a good school, wait until your junior year in high school. Colleges could give two sh*ts about how you do/did in junior high. If you have the academic aptitude then getting into an Ivy league school should be no problem. If you are like the rest of us then going to a regular university will do you just fine.

F*ck school. F*ck the system! | Well i wouldn't go so far as to say that quite. But depending on you want to do, and how willing you are to achieve it, school is not that important, if you are motivated and want to do well do your best, study, work hard, plan, but don't stress, obviously some people are more easily stressed than others, but i cant say i have been one of those people, i slacked a bit in school, could have done better (We all could have really) but i wasn't stressed and i worked hard when i decided i wanted a decent score. If you don't stress, do your class work and homework, and study on the side your set, i remember reading my chemistry book on the bus everyday. If you f*ck up, you can always go back at some point if it's required and you will be much more motivated if you go there out of your own choice. I also believe Uni is easier because you are not being forced, it is of your own initiative.

Well, ok, maybe I exaggerated a bit. Duh.... I do think studying and learning is important for life, but the way people have started taking it too seriously is simply disgusting to me. We should all be focused on more important and better things.

| QUOTE (Benjimino234 @ Thursday, Mar 15 2012, 11:55) | This is just a frustrating school moment and you just need to rant, I understand. I have recently finished high school and now in college. The high school was not anything special just a normal public one and they make a big deal on consistency across marking and grades across students and the students from other schools. Teachers may teach differently but don't they crossmark then crossmark again and you know when you have those pupil free days that's just dedicated to even the marks across the assessments. Things are different in Australia here but I would assume that things would be the same about overall education.
Does the whole of your high schooling count towards the final marks for colleges and universities? Or the last year?
But nevertheless studying well, hard and consistently imprints a good habit which carries over into the real world. Also school is one of the best things ever, I so sorely miss high school and it's not a chapter in your life you should take for granted. | Here in the United States, most of your high school career is put into account. Some colleges don't really care about your freshman year. Extracurricular activities seem to matter, too, but I don't really have anything to back me up in that area. My grades aren't that great, either. Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it.

School is frustating? Seriously? I'm sorry, but you will have a hard time when you enter the real world.
Now, University is frustating. It dosn't matter if you like what you are studing, unless it's something rather easy (Or you just like to study) it will most probably be frustating (at least more than school). I like Physics, Math and programming. That dosn't mean I love to study it like a maniac in University. It's hard and can get very frustating when you can't do things that seem too easy, when you fail that course and have to take it again, when you have been studing months for a final exam and you fail anyways, when you lose months or years. And more stuff, mainly since you are now on your own, and nobody will help you if you don't do it first.
And let's not talk about elimination process, tons of stuff you have to DO otherwise you will fail even if you know everything 100%.
I loved School, that sh*t was so f*cking easy.

Now, I'm having a practicum for 2 weeks, every day, about energy conversion. sh*t was about physics, and i didn't like physics. 6 months ago, a practicum for 4 months, every weeks, about Computer and Programming. sh*t was about coding, and other computer sh*t, and i like them.

Granted, when I was in high school, I enjoyed history and English (to an extent - when we were analyzing poetry, not so much), but I was always more into physics and mathematics (chemistry and biology, too, but not as much as the other two) and when I got to university, it definitely got tougher, so it was certainly harder. My enjoyment of school went up, because I was studying what I wanted to and I really liked it, but it was by no means easy and I put my blood and sweat into getting my B.Sc. in honours physics. I expected that, though, so I couldn't really complain (and I didn't - I did the work).
University should be challenging (to an extent). If it's too easy, you're not learning.
[EDIT] What goin-god said hit the nail on the head.
