Am I going crazy because the other day when playing GTA IV single player there were guys driving buses around!

I was at the airport area and playing with my wanted level using cheats up/down. The buses were driving around just like all vehicles normally do. The guys driving them looked like bus drivers or something?

Is this normal?

Yes it's normal, I've seen it too, but Rockstar unfortunately didn't implement a bus system in GTA IV. There is an efficient Metro system though.

I think the main reason why Rockstar didn't do it was becos it would be too easy to break it, to interfere with it. You could for example bomb or highjack the bus, which would totally f*ck up the whole line, since that bus wouldn't be driving anymore.

They've prevented the metro's from being blocked up or jacked, but it's completely acceptable cos it's realistic. You can't do that with buses though cos then it would be really awkward that there's some indestructible vehicle riding around.

Btw, the buses at the airport are some sort of passenger carriers. Since we can't take flights it's useless as well.

Thanks. Do you know if passengers get on the buses, and either way do the buses stop at airport bus stops?

Nope, it's just the old Rockstar trick: either they disappear behind a building, or if you follow them, they'll just drive in circles. wink.gif

It's a bit of a pity they didn't put in the game, but then again, it musn't be easy to come with a decent working bus system.

They had a system back in Vice City how the Busses would only follow a single path and they would not spawn outside of the roads along there path, and would stop at the stops with Passengers getting on and off the bus.

This is a very interesting theory - is this fact? Did they say this in an interview? I would assume Rockstar will want to reintroduce this into V, and it will be interesting to see how they do it, considering the affect of what you have said.

If they made the buses drive-able vehicles vs. a fast transport system like the subway, I don't see what the problem would be to allow players to use them in game (SP and MP)?

It's just another vehicle... Like one of the larger transport trucks in the game... And like all other drive-able vehicles they follow traffic patterns around the city until the player intervenes and takes control e.g. hijacks the vehicle. The only difference might be the passengers riding the bus don't flee like they do when you hijack a vehicle that has multiple passengers (they eventually get out if you stop).

I wonder if they will choose to implement this in GTA V instead of just making the buses window dressing like they are now? Hmm...

Maybe the buses were actually supposed to be seen or driven around liberty city...I think its probably in beta stages of the game in my opinion.

UPDATE:

I just installed a car pack as well as a Taxi Bug Fix-slash-Traffic Control Mod and the buses are definitely DRIVABLE! I'm talking about city buses and not Airport shuttles.

I was able to hijack the bus just like any other vehicle and drive it around, too. In addition, there are buses driving all around Liberty city just like normal traffic does, too.

Now, I really wish GTA IV had a "Speed" type mission where you had to keep the bus going, or it explodes lol.gif

of course buses are drivable . there is a bunch of them near Tourmav heliport . since the vehicle isn't "locked" to its native path and a ped groupp is assigned to it you'll see it around . you can put whatever vehicle you want in traffic firetruck etc . i think R* didn't implemented a bus system it's because it would have took too much to reach your destination . subways aren't blocked by traffic , bus can sarcasm.gif
