| QUOTE (AceRay @ Sunday, Sep 9 2012, 22:41) | | Uh, shouldn't the winning table go to whoever got the most golds, then silver and then bronze. Cammi got 6 bronze and is in third while Coat has 3 gold and 1 silver, shouldn't he be second or third? Just adding up the totals doesn't really work, if someone had heaps of bronze medals they end up winning the whole thing. |
The scoring system is different. Mokrie Dela and kmlwin.1996 have the same amount of votes but Mokrie Dela was voted 1st more than everybody else which puts him on first rank (Gold star). As for kmlwin.1996 he did not get any 1st votes but he got more 2nd votes than everybody else which puts him on second rank (Silver star). And it goes on like that. |
Yeah, I don't think you understand how this sort of voting should work. The person who gets "the most silver medals" doesn't come second. That's ridiculous.
First off, it needs to be defined up front what any given vote is worth. Gold should be worth a set amount of points; silver another, bronze another. It could be 3, 2 and 1, respectively. Or, to give higher emphasis to winning a gold, it could be 5, 3, 1. Or Maybe 4, 2, 1. See how there's so many permutations of it? Every one of them will give different results.
The bottom line is that coming 1st should get you
more points than coming 3rd. The entire idea that someone who gets ranked 1st by three people doesn't even place against two people who didn't come first on
anyone's list is laughable.
If you went with 3, 2 and 1 points respectively, then the standings would be:
Mokrie: 22
kmlwin.1996: 14
Coat.: 12
cammi: 6
If you went with 4, 2, 1 it would be:
Mokrie: 28
Coat.: 15
kmlwin.1996: 14
cammi: 6
Now, coming up with such a calculation for every round makes it kind of complex. Who decided to do a 1st/2nd/3rd style anyway? SSOTM always just used to be vote for the best; the one with the most wins. Infinitely more simple.
Infinitely more ridiculous, though, is just tallying up overall medals. 3rd place should
not bear the same weight as 1st place.
Rant over. This competition is a bit of a joke.
