| QUOTE (Mr White0161 @ Sunday, Mar 11 2012, 18:28) | | I don't think IV had a great storyline. It was ok but it wasn't great, there were quite a few pointless irrelevant things that took place. Personally I think Vice City had the best story line seeing as how throughout the story things you had done in the beginning in-turn effect how the story progressed later on. For example when you kill that cook in the back alley and take his cell-phone. Later on in the game his contacts and others who had his number contact you through the phone expecting him to pick up but then they realize it's someone different. Or that one mission for Diaz when you dress up like a Cuban and start a war between the Haitians and Cubans which you later end up being apart of. All the missions in Vice City were connected in some way. Most in IV were quite irrelevant as to what was actually going on, for example all of Bruices missions or Ray's missions with the diamonds. A lot of what happened in IV didn't make much sense either, like Dimitri's hard-on to kill you. There was no need for him to betray Niko in the first place and after running him out of Hove Beach it should have been left at that. No more, no less. GTA IV itself is great game, I play it everyday but as for it being a "great" storyline it sucked. |
Dimitri's betrayal was just executed differently to what we're used to seeing. He had connections with Bulgarin. The whole diamond angle to me was a cross over point Niko never intended to get involved in even though they were on the ship he was on. It set up the under tone of the game. Sure there were filler missions, but the majority of the missions for Ray, U.L Paper, Gravelli were closely linked in order to help get Darko to the U.S. Lets also remember VC was a rags to riches game where the motivations were very different. GTA IV's story was gritty revenge and Niko's realization that the American Dream wasn't what he thought it would be. GTA IV has a far better story and this coming from a long time VC fan.
