It is historically great tasting, after all.

Drinking and learning? Together? Sounds like my kind of course, do they do it at any United States university? It'd give me an excuse to leave the deadened old vineyards of North West England.

After that...do what you like.

Seriously, it very well could be taught just about anywhere in some studies although it is researched it is not practiced by current distillers or plumbers to my knowledge except for historical reenactment or demonstrations.

What about heating? Without it, we'd all freeze in our homes. Air conditioners are life savors too during the summer.

Heating is a branch off from electricity nowadays, unless you use one of those classic open fires. Besides, while neanderthals did indeed freeze to death in times of sheer, extreme cold they utilized animal fur to keep warm, much like we use a blanket, jumper or hooded top to keep warm when we're unable to keep warm by any other means. For example, being out and about.

Both ice, fire and geothermal/cooling living conditions are natural phenomenons used by many creatures and the advancement is partially instinctual, once again, and therefore the advancements you speak of are an advancement built on natural phenomenon, including instinctual, many Tech Advancements are like this when considering importance.

Comfort is a far cry from essential, though, and most important seems to ask for necessity because,"Necessity is the mother of invention!", not laziness nor ease.

But......for some it could be, I suppose yet it seems kinda contradictory to work really hard for laziness, although comfort itself may be a strong standpoint at first and eventually heating or cooling may be life or death and actually it has when considering its predecessor techs of Fire Building, Adobe, Cave Digging and the like.

Weather and Enviormental conditions are a major survival issue for all species and for humanity it has become a major endeavor of many advances.

I got it.

A pointy stick.

> Lends itself to hunting
=> Lends itself to warmth from fur
=> Lends itself to red meat consumption, protein and brain development
==> Lends itself to intelligence from developing brain
===> Lends itself to creating fire, wheels, spear heads for pointy sticks
===> Lends itself to rudimentary tool use
====> Lends itself to building intricate objects, like printing presses
====> Lends itself to construction, electricity, architecture and decreases reliance on nomadic movement
=====> Lends itself to the creation of towns, cities and civilisations
======> Lends itself to print media, governance and celebrity
=======> Lends itself to internet

> Lends itself to internet people who can't grasp the use of a pointy stick

I don't know, time really is only a measurment of how long you've lived in my eyes. I think people could really go without using those things if we weren't so damn used to them now.

I'd probably say condoms. Without them I'm sure the human race would have either overpopulated the Earth or have gone extinct due to STDs.

A pointy stick is an excellent advancement.

It is furthered when the use of fire made carbonization of the pointy end a more formidible tool and weapon. icon14.gif

Hahahaha either or, right? tounge.gif

Also, @time concept: You remind me of Trent Lane from Daria with that sort of notion of time.

So you're telling me a pointy stick is the reason for knobs to go around thinking prodding a maggot infested corpse is a popular source of humour? I wonder if it's marvels stop there.

So, the list of what a pointy stick can give us grows. Aside from reducing the dignity of a homeless man to mere filth, it can also hold our favourite party treats and make us look tasteful at the same time.

"What have you got there?"
"Pineapple, cheese and a pickled onion. Jealous?"

Well it's not as funny when you do it with your finger. It's just more sanitary and humourous to use a sharp stick.

Another great invention....Porn, now come on nobody can dispute that.
