On topic: He possibly knew his father but he died when CJ, Sweet, Brian and Kendl were little. Possibly killed in a gang conflict.

Get real... under the 'circumstance' he would have just disappeared. I don't expect you have lived in this kind of neighbourhood, but just general 'news' of the social structure (not the TV families) in such areas should give you all a hint at what goes on. It's more likely that mums didn't know for sure who he was.
