Surely I can't be the only one who misses the 2 Player from San Andreas, where you would go to a certain place and all you had to was to get your friend to press the Action button to start 2 player, it was really to play it and I can't see why they'd take it out in GTA IV.

It got very annoying playing 2 player in San Andreas sometimes since you had absolutely no control over the camera placement which I'd hope R* would find a solution to if they were to re-implement it.

Yes I absolutely loved it, because it suckedwatching my friends play or vice versa. Infact, my friend and I still sometimes play 2 player SA because I gave my SA to him.

But if they were to re-impliment it, there would need to be some major tweaks.

-Make it so player 2 can use cheats
-don't make them share the same screen. that's peutrid sh*t -- we need splitscreen.
-Make it so there is no distance limit, so we couldgo anywhere we want without being tethered by an invisible, invincible rope.
-Make the 2P icons more common. They were a pain in the ass to look up on google images in SA.

Split screen is not really possible in GTA. In GTA only the things you're looking at are loaded. If it's split screen, you're doubling the amount that needs to be loaded at once. One console can't handle it.

That is very true, but if the graphics, draw distance and detail is lowered it is possible, this has been done in various of video games and works very well, if you play Call of Duty Zombies you notice this if you use a large screen to play on.


I don't care if it's done using Split-Screen or San Andreas style ( Improved since it had way too many bugs and issues ) I'd like for 2 Player Free Roam to return.

This Split the screen was possible on weak old games that came out in the 2000s. In GTA V this will be not possible. The amount of processing power for this is just too incredible.

I think split screen MP free roam/competitive modes are more likely, but this is their "biggest and most ambitious game yet" so who knows.

I agree. If lowering textures is what it takes, so be it. Split Screen GTA would be really fun and tottaly worth the low res textures.

as clunky as the 2 player in SA was, i really liked it. they just needed to optimize it and it could have been far better.

i doubt it's going to return in GTA:V, though.

As much as i loved 2 player mode in SA lets face it split-screen games in general are dying out. All these tight arsed developers dont want gamers playing together for free, they want to scrape some more of the top and make what should be a standard option like it always was since the dawn of gaming to some pay to play crap. The fact that somer racers yes f*ckin racers have only online mode and no splitscreen is the epitome of this bullsh*t. Why do they even sell consoles with 2 controller ports. Sorry for the off topic rant but I find it infuriating.

Yeah, the non local multi-player has been a real sticking point for me. The golden age of multi-player was the N64 era when you had to actually hae friends to play along with. They need to allow us that same freedom.
