Hi, everyone. This is my first post and I'm not sure if I opened the thread in the correct place. I'm sorry if it is not. Anyways, I downloaded the mod called Things to do in San Andreas by deezire. First, some background.

I have the GTA SA Steam version, which I know won't let me install any mods. So I copied all the files to another folder in another drive and downgraded the .exe from version 3.00 to version 1.00. Oh, yes. I also know this mod will only work with the English version of GTA SA. I'm not sure if I have it (dumb as it would sound), but I've played the game over and over in English, so I suppose I have the English version. Besides, in the Text folder, I only have two GXT's: american.gxt and spanish.gxt, but I don't have an option to change the language within the game, not that it matters too much to me. I have Windows Vista Ultimate and the OS is in Spanish.

Now, the problem. As I had said before, I copied all the files from the Steam SA to another folder in another drive, and downgraded my .exe from version 3.00 (Steam) to version 1.00. According to a suggestion in the readme, I made a backup copy of my user files and deleted the gta_sa.set along with my saved games, then I installed the mod in this clean install of GTA SA in my other drive

When I fire up the game, none of the splash screens are changed, and now the menu is in Spanish! I don't have an option to change the language, and when I start a new game, it's the same old CJ claiming his bag in Los Santos airport, etc., etc. Obviously, I don't have the audio, just the subtitles in Spanish. I do speak Spanish, so that's not the problem. I went ahead and deleted all the files in the new installation to start all over again.

Second time, I repeated the operation but I left version 3.00 in the new folder, to allow the mod to downgrade the .exe. It wouldn't let me install it, (the button is grayed-out) so I downgraded it again to version 1.00 with the same results, that is, menus in Spanish, same old CJ, etc.

Then, I tried a fresh install of GTA SA from an ISO file and I got the same results. I even tried deleting the spanish.gxt, thinking it will force the game into English, but it crashed, so the file is needed.

I'm at loss not knowing what I did wrong (if I did something wrong), or if the language of my OS is interfering. Oh, yeah. Whenever I install it fresh into my other drive, I always select English as the installation language. Also, I don't have problems with disk space or with system requirements.

Anyway, here's my system:

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (x86)
Processor: Intel Quadcore 2.3 MHz
Memory: 4 Gb (3Gb reported because it's x86)
Video: nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS
Total disk space: 4 HD's, 1Tb, 300 Gb, 150 Gb, and 33.5 Gb. All used to less than half their capacity.

I hope I've been as explicit as possible, and any help in getting this mod going will be greatly appreciated!

I have the original GTA SA v3.00, the Steam version, (that is, gta-sa.exe). When I copy the game files to another drive, I downgrade the .exe to version 1, and it's renamed to gta_sa.exe. This is the one I intend to use for the mod.

I don't touch my Steam copy in its original folder. What I do is copy the files to another directory in other drive and work there. Whenever I want to play the regular SA, I play the Steam version. If I want to play mods, I use my other installation, but so far, I've had this problem that's literally frying my brain. I don't know what to do next. I haven't tried Alt's suggestion yet, BTW, but will do as soon as I have some time.
