I did a benchmark with gta4 and I disabled 2 of the cores on my quad core i5 750. It still came out with 60fps. So does having a duel core really make much difference than having a quad core, is the graphics card the most important factor? The processor is set to 3.2GHz and the graphics card is a GTX560ti.

sometimes i think widnows doesn't really disable stuff when they say its disabled. i installed microsoft security essentials (since the windows 8 was validated, i figure why not try it? biggrin.gif), even when i disabled it, it crashed gta IV EVERYTIME i played it. after the third time, i uninstalled it. problem gone. i5 750? it has hyperthreading?

maybe gta IV recognizes it differently than older intel CPUs, i don't know.

The benchmark is practically broken, so that's another possible cause.

Just curious as to exactly how you managed to disabled the cores? Did you do it inside the bios or force the OS to run only on 2 out of the 4 cores? Post a pic of CPU-Z so that we can verify if the cores are actually disabled or not.
For the in game benchmark, it does not reflect real world game play.

I went to task manager, processes, right click gta4.exe, set affinity then untick 2 of the cores. I could see on the performance graph that only 2 of the cores were in operation, the other 2 were at 0% usage. As you can see on the benchmark that the CPU = 49% so it is using 2 cores at almost 100% and the other 2 at 0%. I tested a few minutes in a 30 player multiplayer and it seemed pretty smooth. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have hyper threading, that is the i7.

I will post a screen later.
