For ~$400,- you can get an very nice upgrade;

MSI Motherboard with AM3
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition @3.3 GHz
ASUS ENGTX560 1GB GDDR5 graphic card
8GB DDR3 RAM @1333MHz
Coolermaster 700 watt PSU

The only things you need to keep are your disk drive, hard disk and case + cooler.

Get Windows 'for free' at the Piratebay, by searching to thethingy windows

Upgrade to what? 3xHD7970/GTX680? I mean - 700W is a huge overkill...

Sure, I totally agree, but on the other hand having way more power than needed is just a waste IMHO, unless one gets a decent deal on the PSU. Most modern rigs (like i7 + HD7970/GTX680 + OC) will do fine on a ~550W PSU.

I Think

Core i5 @3GHZ
Gtx680 2gb
4gb RAM [ 6 gb including graphic card memory ]
500 gb HDD
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
500 watt PSU

There's more to every PSU then just the wattage.
The power calculator can provide a solid point of reference http://images10.newegg.com/BizIntell/tool/psucalc/index.html

To some degree it can, though in most cases calculators overstate the necessary power by a huge margin.

Well, it's better if it overstates then understates, isn't it tounge.gif
I think this calculator does a decent job.
