Hi guys, I'm new here, I just got into this game but I'm having some problems with frame rate, wondering if anybody can help. I'm playing on my 17' 16:9 laptop which is three years newer than the game itself, it's got an i5, 6 gb ram, and a 1 gb ATI graphics card, and I'm getting 10-20 FPS on 1280x720 with all the settings low. And I'm using 1.0.4.0 which they claim is the best for frame rate.

So going on youtube I found tutorials where they recommend creating a commandline text file with these settings:

-width 512
-height 384
-availablevidmem 2.00
-nomemrestrict
-novblank
-fullscreen (this line doesn't make a difference, actually)

This drastically improved my FPS to about 40. I don't really care for nice graphics too much so the low resolution doesn't really bother me. But the black lines to the sides of the screen area really annoying since this is a 4:3 resolution, and everything is stretched taller. I can fix the stretch by changing 16:9 to 4:3 in game, but still the black lines are there.

So I tried editing the commandline by changing the width so that its in a 16:9 ratio to a height of 384. This yields

-width 682
-height 384

But even on these settings the black lines are still there, and its actually exactly the same as setting the width to 512. So how do I fix this? All I want to do is play in fullscreen at 16:9 with a resolution lower than the lowest in game setting of 1280x720.

Thanks!

Can you be more specific about your video card also and video drivers?
Those commandlines are useless, they do nothing about performance.
Try this

Hi,

Those commandlines actually improved my FPS by 10 on 1280x720, thanks ! But thats 20-30 and its still tough to play when its 20. Is there a way to reduce the resolution?

I have a Radeon 5470 mobile 1 gb card, the drivers are updated. No its not the greatest but I can play Crysis at medium settings so surely I can play a game thats 3 years older than my computer no problem ???

That's the same exact video card I have....IV and EFLC does not tend to play well on resolutions above 1024X600...It IS Full screen on that resolution by default...

I use the following settings: here are the settings.. and can play at 30+ fps most of the time(except for a few fps drops in the Hove Beach area(around the first save house) and when it is raining...)

That's really about the best you can do to improve fps, since you are on a laptop, since laptop cards cannot be upgraded as they are soldered in...
