My current set-up:

Component Details
Processor AMD Athlon™ II X3 440 3.0Ghz
Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6570 DDR3 2GB
Windows 7 Ultimate
Motherboard Model M68MT-S2 v1.3
450 W PSU.

The set-up i will get:

Processor AMD FX-8120 X8 3.10Ghz
Memory(RAM) 4.0 GB
Graphics XFX AMD Radeon HD 6850 DDR5 1GB
Win 7 Ultimate
Motherboard Model M68MT-S2 V3.1
650W PSU.

Also adding a few fans for the case so it can remain cool. This thisd sound like a good plan for an upgrade, didn't want to get another motherboard as i dont know if it will fit so chose the revised version of what i've got. For £340 does this sound alright for gaming, like games recently released and future games?

Thanks for your time

Shane

as long the motherboard is the same form factor as your current one then i would upgrade to the one you want.
i dont know how good a radeon 6850 is (i have a 6570 and i run it at medium settings in eflc and it runs good for a $60.00 card) biggrin.gif

you actual configuration is largely enough for GTA IV if it's what you wanted to know . for GTA V it's very likely a very good rig will be needed , if you judge according to the level of detail they put in IV . but if you feel like putting the hands in the dirt a bit and think of modding a bit , it's very likely your new rig will be largely enough too (i said with a bit of modding)

If you use your PC mainly for gaming, FX-8150 is definitely not the way to go. Intel's i5 CPUs will be way better.

PS. What are the brand of both PSUs? A proper 450W will do for both rigs.

hugh750- My motherboard that i have now is the older version i'm getting, so the size should be the same and means i dont have to play around with circuitry ect. jpm1- what kind of modding you talking about mate? and yojo2 I know the I5 is better in multi-threaded tasks but im getting an am3+ motherboard, my current set-up of amd cpu and amd gpu has been working fine with no snags at all, thats why im sticking with the FX- 8120 and HD 6850 1gb ddr5.

Thanks for the repliues, making me think about things i also need to adjust like system fans ect...

But why stick with the AMD? I mean - FX-8120 isn't a terrible CPU, but even Phenoms II X4 are faster in games, so you're just wasting money on a AM3+ mobo. FX are poor for gaming purposes. So, if you really don't want to get i5, just keep the current mobo and buy either Phenom 945 or 960T, maybe 1045T/1055T. Note that Phenoms with TDP higher than 95W won't be supported on your mobo!

? i see phenoms with 125w on both versions, although i agree with most of what is being said - it would be a waste of time upgrading with amd - x3 440 should o/c

"N/A" = not supported. No 125W/140W CPU is supported.

Yep, what I meant is that where there is no sutiable BIOS available, the processor won't be supported. wink.gif

Hi!
Im building new PC too... Only for games...
What you think:
Intel i5 2500k or AMD FX4170??
As far as i know i5 is limited with 1333Mhz ddr3, while on FX i would run 1866Mhz memory... (both 8 GB kits)
Suggestions?!
Thanks!

i5 and FX-4170 don't even belong in the same league. FX-4170 is far, FAR worse. It's not even a true quad core CPU.
i5 can run >1333MHz memory, it depends on a mobo (most mobos support up to 1866MHz). Though, you should know that memory clock have barely any impact on performance, especially in games.

Isn't that one sad fact. Higher clocks oft give you more trouble then they're worth in gold.
