Hey guys.

What kinda trip hop do you think I'd like if I loved DJ Shadow's Midnight in a Perfect World and Portishead's Roads? I don't know how to describe the sound in these sounds but I absolutely love it.

I'd give Elsiane a proper listen, they're not trip-hop in the strictest sense, but they take a few notable queues and the overall effect really is something that properly sets itself apart. Easily one of my favorite artists by a leap and a mile, I've listened to Hybrid so many times.

Also, Massive Attack but of course.

Trip-hop is a great genre, but it all suffers pretty heavily from the vast majority of the artists more or less being Portishead clones.

DUDE!

That song is EXACTLY the kinda sound I love. I'm gonna be checking out more of their stuff for sure.

Any particular tracks you'd recommend?

I also can't believe I forgot Massive Attack. /facepalm

Thanks. smile.gif

There are only two albums, obviously start by just going through Hybrid. Hell I only just acquired Mechanics Of Emotion (the new album) so I can't recommend it quite yet as I just this very minute started listening to it, but just by the first track it's just as good as the first.

Anything by DJ Krush. He's had some terrific collaborations with DJ Shadow as well. Love every single track of his; I'm really glad I found his music.

These have vocals, and are similar to 'Midnight in a Perfect World', albeit with a more R'n'B feel to them.

There's some seriously bloody good music going on in here. I've never heard of some of these artists so now I've got plenty of new stuff to keep me going.

The only artists I can think of recommending is XXYYXX. He may not be trip-hop but he's just as good and as relaxing as Portishead, in my opinion.

I haven't got a clue if these would be defined as trip-hop. Have a little sample of them anyway.

The full track is nearly a minute longer, and it doesn't have the people talking over it.
This is from a compilation by all different producers called My Mate Does Beats.

You can download this for free: http://paulwhite.bandcamp.com/track/so-far-away
He's got quite a few things you can buy, or download for free.

This is from Bonobo's album Days To Come.

Telemachus - Ferndale Road (Shortened video version).
B-side from Telemachus' Scarecrows (with Roc Marciano).

It goes without saying that names like Flying Lotus, 9th Wonder and J Dilla are going to meet your standards beyond properly, but I'd also suggest some less-known names like Samiyam, Dimlite, Wale Oyejide, Declaime, Alif Tree, Theory Hazit, Depakote, Bullion and aether. I'm afraid I can't be bothered enough to provide any links, but trust me, I know what I'm talking about.
