Just to get a good idea of how well my retina macbook could play GTA IV (that is of course when it finally arrives mad.gif ) could i get a show of hands for people running the game on a mac?

please include your:
-Subfamily, model and other customisations. (www.everymac.com is great for finding out subfamily/year etc)
-Either OSX version running parallels with windows version or windows version under bootcamp
-General outline of visual settings
-Patch number
-Your opinion on how well it plays

I will start:
Macbook pro retina
Mid-2012 Retina baseline model with 16GB ram
Mountain lion running win 7 ultimate 64bit under parallels if I can but I doubt it sad.gif
At least minimum i hope

[your opinion on how well it plays]

If there are simply no mac users here is there anyone with gpu knowledge that thinks the GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 is enough to play the game comfortably on any setting? I am pretty sure the other specs are more than enough to run the game e.g 16GB 1600mhz DDR3L, 3.3GHz 6mb cache, ssd etc. I would assume it could handle the game despite the poor port because my 2009 crapbook just manages 10fps with its Geforce 8200mg integrated graphics sad.gif. Not to mention the retina macbook can run 3 1080p screens and its own retina screen with no lag cool.gif .

on another side note i will be using parallels for other stuff so while im at it i will be trying it on. On paper it should work cause the requirements are less than half the specs so i should have a little headroom. however vm's apparently don't have a lot going for them graphics wise so i might have to settle for a bootcamp windows installation.

It will run fine at high settings in bootcamp, not virtual pc.

As with any laptop used for gaming, cooling may be an issue.

Yeah i am prepared to handle the cooling problem. My other laptop was a case of taking the bottom panel off, setting it up on a table of dvds and putting a tray of ice under it hahaha.

Any update on how this worked out?

I'm planning on running GTA IV on my Macbook Pro Retina, under bootcamp with Win 7 x64, and was wondering what sort of performance to expect. Can you suggest which patches/fixes will improve speeds? Also - dumb question - do you need to patch the game if Episodes from Liberty City is installed?

Cheers!

That laptop will run it in the low 20's fps @ 1080p with high settings.
