So, how many of us are still around? By veteran I mean good modders that have done at least 1 or 2 scratch made mods.
I'm talking about any kind of modding, even tool making. Vehicles, Characters, Maps, etc.
Main reason I ask is because I want to see the current status of GTA Modding, looks pretty dead to me but hopefully I'm wrong.

Just post here saying if you are, and whether you are still modding or not. I will start by saying I'm still here, probably wont leave for a while. But I stopped modding GTA now, I moved on to Red Orchestra 2 (Unreal 3), but I will probably come back once V is released and Tools are better than when IV was still new.

Note: Since I'm talking about Modding in general, I couldn't post this in III or IV era discussion. Even if this is not a mod I feel this is the only place I could ask this, since we don't have a general Modding discusion.

I still work on new mods that are even more complex than my released ones.

My motto is: Good modders never decide to quit GTA modding.

You can expect few projects in next months from me.

There's still a lot of things unknown in GTA series, such as making a cutscene.
But i don't know 3ds Max yet to do anything about it.

On other hand i try to decode Painkiller as well.

Yeah I know, havn't talked to him in AGES. I hope he is fine, I knew the poor guy wouldn't be able to finish his mod when he told me he had a daugther. He then said he was going to port the mod to HL or something.

Fastman, I agree with you man. As I said, I plan on coming back when V is released. I just couldn't get into IV modding with all the time it took to develop the tools.

- Onepiece is back again on making cars for VC/SA/IV.
- Ops, how can I forget Schaeffts for his amazing cars. Don't know if he actually left.
- Ghostwon Paradise - ParoXum and his Team are aging now. I don't think they have the juice for this anymore.
- Aschratt and his team for GTA UNITED, same as above.

We need a new generation, a young one, that could still be interested in the classic era and future coming era.
Some russian websites are doing okay even now, something that I always appreciated, like N-Gine.

Russian GTA Modding, you'll be surprised by what they have made.
Look for an example at DK22P (did I wrote his nickname correct)
GTA SA still has lots of things to offer, the only that needs are motivated coders/modders.

I think it also has to do with convertions. Converted cars, characters and what not. And I'm not just talking about the GTA games.. All games seem to have this problem.

It isnt really motivating to see others just rushing stuff, while your doing it from scratch

GTA Vehicle Modding has been screwed up by these kids converting crap from TDU, NFS and Forza.
Everyday when I check GTAInside, a sh*t load of converted TDU, NFS and Forza cars.
Heck, they even combine stuff from all these 3 games cars into one car!

- ZAZ is still here with all the things he made.
- xmen for all his tools, especially IMG Tool as he appears from time to time.

I recognize the fact that after IV was released a new world was included here. I hope people will not lose their interest and focus only into IV, V, VI, ... X from now on. Those that are at least between 8 or 10 years younger than us are looking more into games with perfect worlds, near perfect round HQ/HD objects with tens of poly, yet I don't include everyone here as you can still see a huge number of youtube users and forums still playing the classics.

Crap, I wonder where SA will be or end over the next five, seven or even, ten years.

Still in GTA modding, i guess. But not much than i used to be.
Agree with Chris, too much convertions mod nowadays. It really kill my mood on GTA modding.

Now i'm in general modeling. Modeling things just for fun, for the art, not to be used on a game. Still learning new stuff on the way.

Agree about conversions outweighing original content, shame, but that shouldn't stop creative scratch-made designs from being good.
I've been GTA modding for a few years but probably not made anywhere near the amount of stuff as real vets. Lost most of the drive to do it nowadays. I have this problem where i no longer mod for my own enjoyment, but instead have to validate my work by impressing/giving help to others.

What are the chances of the remaining modders collaborating to make a full total conversion? I would doubt that many have any free time nor interest any more.

There are lots of good ped modders for SAMP in many role-play forums and blogs...But yeah, people are leaving GTA modding, maybe it's becouse there's nothing really fresh. Great example is Skyrim...it's new game, devs created tools for modders to support modding, but R* have never done something for us.

I've made import/export tools for GTA III era games. Well I won't say my output has slowed down much because I've always worked slow. But then this kind of work is pretty time consuming.

I would really like to write a 3ds max tool which bypasses zmodeler2 completely and permits direct export of GTA IV vehicles to the game. Unfortunately I'm not great at cracking file formats sad.gif and the guy who has the information doesn't want to share it. I even suggested a .z3d exporter; he's not keen on that either.

Ok a RAGE SDK would be brilliant just what we need.

I remember having a little chat with Mark about doing something more radical, our own GTA game made by modders in the Unity engine. But was to ambitious. Besides there was the Grit Engine project, wich I didn't follow anymore so I don't know if it's still being worked on.

But I would be up to anything really, as long as there is enough people.

I saw photos of mod, which want to make fresh Vice City into RAGE. It isn't conversion of buildings from VC, but completly new idea of the best city in GTA wink.gif I've got fingers crossed about this project wink.gif

Not only most of them are lack of inspiration and imagination like from objects with no textures black & white glitches specially on engine parts or other parts of the cars body or with textures yet taken from low settings, vertex night colors are not even places correctly, opaque windows & lights or not complete transparent, incorrectly chrome textures being used on side, rear, front bars or wheels.

However, there are few hours being spend, but I can't stand to see and accept playing hideous stuff.
