So I just bought a 6990 and I really wanted to run this game on max everything ever since I got it and I was rather disappointed when I ran the game and first of all, the text was all fuzzy and looked like crap, the main screen was the same...When I went to "fix it" in the graphics settings it gives me the error: Your graphics settings are near, or exceed, the suggested resource limits for your system. It is recommended that you reduce your settings in order to run the game optimally. Furthermore, when I go to actually run the benchmark, it puts itself in the upper lefthand corner of the screen at what im assuming is 800x600. When I try to change any settings it just instantly rebounds back to the lowest setting...

TLDR: GTA IV wont run above lowest settings on new 6990, even with profiles and updated drivers. (It ran fine on my old 5770)

Tis a stupid bug, happens to me on occasion.

Just enable the -norestrictions command via commandline.txt in the root GTA4 directory.

I er, ah, searched the GTA IV directory for commandline.txt in (D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv) for my computer. I checked the Rockstar Games save location in documents, didn't find it there either.

Wait, I googled it and I think i've got it...lol

If there is no commandline.txt, just create it in Notepad.

Does making commandline.txt still work for the Steam edition? On the Steam forums it tells you to change the launch options in Steam itself to use commandlines.

Did this work? I have the EXACT problem (with a 3GB video card) and I am currently re-installing the d@^&* game (didn't know what else to do). I thought I had already done this command, but maybe not.

Can you confirm it worked?

Did you add a benchmark shortcut?
Add -benchmark in "target Dir" at the benchmark command.end. Make sure you create shortcut first then add the -
This should help you also try to reserve at least 25 gb for the game. I find that even you mb might not sound alot, it is.

Yes
32gb is verry cheap here in norway about 330$ US dollars.
And it is only 1600mhz 9-9-9-21.
When i play gta4 the game uses only about 2-3gb of mem.
