My apologies if this is a run of the mill issue or far too easy to post a help topic, but it is frustrating me and everything I've looked up regarding it is overly complex and nonsensical.

Every time I turn on my computer for the day, it attempts to install new driver software, and always fails. I see no negative effects on the running of my system, but nevertheless, the persistent error message is irking me. I'm beginning to wonder whether this may have more serious ramifications in future, so I'm asking about it here.

How am I supposed to choose an adequate driver, or even find out what my current / previous one was so that I can simply update it and be done with this menace?

Computer: Compaq SG3 Series
OS: 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium
RAM: 4 GB (3.75 Usable)
Processor: AMD Athlon™ II X2 245 Processor 2.90 GHz

You need to figure out what it is trying to install drivers for.
From the Start menu search type: Device Manager
Look for anything with a yellow exclamation point. Hopefully it'll be in some kind of category like network or sound. If it's under Unknown then it'll make it that much hard to figure out what it is.
Get us that info and we can go on from there.

If all else fails you should be able to right-click on the item and select Disable which should prevent Windows from trying to install drivers for it.

Unknown device is the one with the exclamation mark, unfortunately. What are the possible candidates for this?

EDIT: I seem to recall this problem starting after an uninstall of Demon Tools; I can't remember why I had it, but it was uninstalled and I think almost immediately after this error began. I hope that helps.

Try reinstalling it. The "unknown driver" might be for the virtual CD drive, if it hasn't uninstalled properly. Perhaps an incomplete or flawed uninstall has left your system hunting for drives for a virtual drive that no longer exists?
