Should the protagonist be another errand boy?

I'd like to be my own boss this time

Go to this hideout, shoot these people, get in these gunfights over and over again. That crap gets very repetitive. I know it was only one game (GTA IV) that was really effected by this problem but if they structure the missions the same way with GTA V I'll be very dissapointed.

When new generations are ushered in, things are supposed to be re-imagined.

An other option could be that you have your own company, and only do errands for yourself.

Can you imagine the Cutscene's?
Just one guy talking to himself telling himself what he has to do otherwise he's gonna have to hurt himself and his family.

Lol j/k.

Niko never really progressed though any ranks, he was always just trying to earn more cash, so a change of pace to actually work up to something again would be nice.

I think VC handled it perfectly. There's nothing wrong with starting at the bottom, but at some point you should be able to take over and run things for yourself.

Yeah, but not by working on third quarter projection analysis spreadsheets like this guy apparently wants. Like I said, I have no problem if it's strictly a side thing, but I played every day the same dream, and it's the worst game I've ever played. Forcing an office job on a player at the beginning of a damn GTA game? Hell, why don't we have a central chapter where you wash dishes for an hour?

Exactly. icon14.gif

IV era GTAs were plagued by this (especially TBOGT which was the worst GTA of all time IMO). It's like Niko and these new protags have no pride in ownership of anything. Tommy and CJ had several operations of their own. I was hoping IV would expand on this; but they digressed backwards with this lazy mission structure you've described. As much as I like keeping up with finances and what not, I think we should keep that out of GTA though. There should instead be more criminal operations where you can lead a team/organization and divide up tasks while participating...

...example: you call up an arms specialist, transportation specialist, intelligence/tech/counter surveillance specialist, or an assortment of miscellaneous experts in addition to numerous "bodies" (armed goons with vest, rifles, and masks). Then you do "jobs". monocle.gif

Honestly, I would much rather go lone wolf on those missions. Handle stuff myself unless the missions calls for it.

About GTA IV "bland missions," sure they may have the same concept - but it was always a different area, different weapons, enemies, story behind it etc. So it wasn't truly 100% the same thing over and over. I guess GTA IV was more story orientated - which I can say I didn't mind - but more gameplay orientated missions would be great.

Maybe not 100% but more like 80% the same.

I doubt GTA V will follow suit as it doesn't look like a hitman styled game. In GTA IV Niko was basically a hired gun. That's why there was a strong emphasis on killing. He wanted revenge and done what he had to which was doing the dirty work of others.

Throwing in missions with a similar level of stupidity like green goo or breaking into area 69 would've really ruined the flow IMO. Every mission whether it was some simple job or a major part of the story felt consistent with the overall tone. I don't mind if GTA V is more relaxed, but it needs to keep a flow going aswell.

canttakemyid: While I understand what you're saying before GTA IV there were 3 Rags To Riches GTAs. I'd say R* made GTA IV a more revenge type of game so the Rags To Riches concept wasn't too played out. When you look at every GTA since GTA III it's a pretty good balance between the two not necessarily favoring one over the other.
