As for Uncharted 2 story being more believable, I can't agree with that at all. I think you've played too many video games. |
Or maybe you just too careless to care what really happen in real life
the whole content in U2 was f*cking brilliant. After finished my 2nd playthrough I've been do some research about the story, and found out that some elements they used in game are not bullcrap at all. I have collected a lot of documents and bunch of interesting stuff, but I've lost it back in last year so I can't give much interest fact.

Macro Polo did left China with 600 passengers and 14 ships loaded with treasure from Kublai Khan, and there are only 18 people survived. As Polo neared death in 1324, he was asked to recant what he had written and simply said that he had not even told half of what he had witnessed. Despite the fact that many claim his book to be unreliable.
And then we have 2 characters were based on real life are Tenzin and Karl Schafer. Karl was based on Ernst Schafer, and this guy wanted to find Shambhala, he didn't find it of course, but some conspiracy and documents said otherwise, his journey already got f*cked by the Nazi before we could know it. Tenzin was based on Tenzing Norgay, and this real life version of Tenzin have encountered yeti's footprint, while his father already seen 2 of them. The interesting thing about this yeti stuff is that there are also real life theories about they are the guardian of Shambhala.
This is a
very good theory stuff I got right here, and probably the one really close with the game.
The game was supposed to let you find the lost treasures from Polo's wreck ship. But then, it seems there are more eggs in one basket, and then there was the Cintamani Stone, Shambhala, then Tree of Life. The whole story is one hell collection about greatest myth and legend in this world, and Naughty Dogs did an amazing job on that.
What about U3? ND also did a lot of good research, the stuff about T. E. Lawrence assassination, Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Francis Drake's secret mission to Syria, Iram of the Pillars,... are serious stuff.
But then, what is the point of finding the Iram in U3? so Drake could save the world by put hole on a lot of people again and blow the whole place up like like stealing candy from a baby? Yes, that is the problem about U3, the story was really pointless, it could've been much better.

Sure... call me a paranoid idiot, or played too many video games. But I always love to do these research, there are thing in life that you shouldn't believe, but there are also thing that you shouldn't ignore at all, we are just a small part of this world and this world have a lot of greatest mysterious we didn't know yet. And that's why games like Uncharted are the best games I've ever played.
